Welcome to DC area. There are so few good shops for auto work that the ones that do it right charge a ton. There are 3 specific "exhaust shops" within a 40 mile radius that I know about that are not a national chain like meineke or midas... I might have to end up going with one of them simply out of cost savings...

Re: Exhaust exit preference
I had my exhaust run out the passenger side like my buddys 4 inch diesel set up. 1988 454 3 inch all the way. I think the dual thing is kind of getting old. 1 big tuff looking pipe. Looked best to me.

Re: Exhaust exit preference
I think mine was $175 for them to run the pipe and install the mufflers that I provided.

I found a cheaper place here... $450 to do both pipes to the passenger corner.
WTF is wrong with these people??

Re: Exhaust exit preference
Sweet f***. I can't begin to imagine paying those kinds of prices. I had true duals in 2.5" pipe installed off the headers and dumped right before the roll pan for $150. They provided the glasspacks too.

Re: Exhaust exit preference
Ya, those price quotes are insane! I'd check a little farther out of the city or even try Midas/Meineke(sp) I've seen a few done from them and they can do good work.

Meineke was the most expensive one.
I bought a welder and did it myself.

How did you bend the pipe? I'd do it to if I had a pipe bender...

Re: Exhaust exit preference
My first dual setup was on my Caprice. The shop only charged me $300 and he provided EVERYTHING. Second exhaust, same shop, only 50 bucks to dump it. Of course, all the dual exhaust was there, he just had to chop and weld right after teh muffler.

Re: Exhaust exit preference
I just got mine finished today and I have dual exits before the rear tire but I voted for sideswept in stock location because thats what I wanted to do

Re: Exhaust exit preference
If I wasn't on a budget, I'd have done my duals like a Nova or Trans Am: Exiting out either side near the rear corner angled downward.

Re: Exhaust exit preference
I like at a 45 degree angle out of both mufflers tucked up and hidden but with large diameter outlets and piping for that deep tone tips give but I don't want to see them. I would have done the tips on my sierra hidden but they were too long so they have to stick out some. I'm gonna hid the exhaust on my Mustang when I get it redone and maybe keep the Silverado's hidden, truck is pretty redneck so some big 4" pipes out both sides in black would look pretty mean especially when I paint the wheels black too.
I do kinda like how on some cars like the 60's Mustangs where they had chrome tips straight out the back through the chrome bumpers, that looks pretty legit.

I never understood why people hate seeing it. Mine's run behind the passenger rear tire

Re: Exhaust exit preference
To me it just looks odd sometimes when a pipe sticks out from under the car, like it's ghetto and busted. When it's tucked up next to the body and doesn't scream attention then it's ok, and when it's duals so it looks even. Like how the stock exhaust looks, the one pipe sticking way out under the bed it looks like a busted part just hanging there, it bothers me like it's not supposed to be like that. Call me weird but that's just how I see it. It's one of the things you an hide so overall the car/truck looks cleaner and intact.
