Installed Magnaflow System on Burban
This weekend I installed a Magnaflow Cat Back system on my 99 Suburban. The truck runs alot better with the system but I am not quite sure if I am happy with the sound. The tone is great but it sounds a tad on the loud side for my taste, would a resonated tip help tone it down a bit?

Wich magnaflow was in the kit? if you have the 14" case, you could get the 18" muffler to help quiet it down a bit more.

TOO LOUD? never thought i would hear magnaflow being too loud... get a longer muffler like 18" or 22"

Yeah, I guess Im becoming an old fart

The system I put on it is a 15699 and it came with a 22" muffler. I guess I was use to the whisper quiet factory sound.

Re: Installed Magnaflow System on Burban
i noticed between the two trucks i've had so far that my magnaflow exhaust on my first truck was a lot louder than the gibson I have on my truck currently. Both trucks were '05's with the 5.3 but the first one was a RCSB where as the new one is a ECSB which could also explain the difference in sound.

22" is a very large muffler, you cant get much quieter than that. you could do tips, it will deepen the tone but not do much for how loud it is. i personally think tips are a waist of money though

Re: Installed Magnaflow System on Burban
I think I am dealing with more cabin resonance here than the actual sound of the exhaust, when I stand outside the exhaust is very mild sounding but it seems louder when I am inside the vehicle.
Maybe some sound deadening is in order in the back doors and floor.

Ok, Im dumb, I got underneath the truck to retighten the clamps and found that one of the pipes leading into the muffler was loose and was leaking, I torqued down the bolts and now she sounds really nice.

I am also running the Magnaflow #15699 cat-back system, I noticed quite a gain when I installed it, but it's not loud enough for me at all...

So.... I found a way to solve that problem AND add even MORE horsepower for not much more money!

MagnaFlow #23453 Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter / crossover assembly with 2" piping and high-flow converters...

CSFI to MPFI upgrade conversion done 10-11-08!

Re: Installed Magnaflow System on Burban
Well, I installed the MagnaFlow #23453 crossover assembly from above post today and WOW!

I found out that the cat-back is USELESS without upgrading the cat-up section to match...

It's not much louder, but sounds WAY better and gained even MORE power than I had before!

This is a great upgrade combination and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in upgrading their exhaust system!
