FOLLOW UP: Exhaust Cut Outs

Unfortunately I went ahead and installed the Mr.Gasket cable operated exhaust cut outs. I installed them before my converters. Ill tell everybody right now, these are not anything you would want to put on a daily driver. These are something that Icould see useful for only a trip from the house to the strip. The cut outs when closed leaked, the exhaust pressure caused a horrible flapping noise. With some adjustments the flapping could stop but it wont pass inspection. Although the truck sounds awesome, I will be cutting them out and putting pipe back in.

Re: FOLLOW UP: Exhaust Cut Outs

the good old manual three wing nut type cutouts are best. No moving parts. No leakage.

Just a pain to crawl under there all the time

Or just get a good flowing exhaust and not have to deal with cutouts at all.

There is a use for cutouts. I pick up about .2-.3 in the 1/4mi. when the cutouts are open. everything else equal.

To have that all the time would get obnoxious and would never pass emissions.

Re: FOLLOW UP: Exhaust Cut Outs

QTP cutouts are some of the best you can get. They work extremely well and they are really easy to install. The manual cutouts work well too,you just have to have a set of heat resistant gloves and be willing to crawl under your truck when you want to take them off.

Please don't give people such horrible advice anymore. Not trying to be a dick, but puttin' straight pipes on everything is a stupid idea. Seriously, only the coolest guys in the trailer park should be allowed to do this.

DAMN!!! Disregard my last statement then lol. The one's I have seen have worked pretty well, but that was only after a short time after them being installed. Didn't see any long term use reviews.

Dynomax Ultraflow = Best flowing muffler on the market (AFAIK) and is by far the quietest i've ever ran on any of my vehicles. I've been through Borla, Hooker MaxFlow, Flowmaster, Spintech, and Magnaflow. I'm sold on Ultraflow.

Whats the difference between the Ultraflow and the Bullet? Look the same to me, I'll have to take a closer look. Are they 50 state legal?

Ultraflow is a regular oval muffler.. bullet is the dinky glasspack.

This is the muffler i have on my truck:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

And this is what it sounds like. Granted, it'll be louder with headers and no cats, but you get the idea.

Re: FOLLOW UP: Exhaust Cut Outs

Yea in retrospect the cut outs wern't the best idea. I figure ill do them again (not on my current truck), and spring the extra money for electric ones. Again though, the truck sounded insanely awesome with them open.

Yeah. I'm familiar with the bullet and want something a little more restrictive.

I found this when I typed in "dynomax ultraflo"
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...part=wlk-24215

The one you posted looks like a good one. sounds good too.

Re: FOLLOW UP: Exhaust Cut Outs

YEah, they don't pop up right away under the regular search. gotta know what you're looking for. ;)
I'm sold on them. i've got one on my truck, and had a pair on my coupe. My buddy has a pair on his 1000+hp turbo foxbody and says driving around it's VERY quiet. Like stock quiet. Talk about sleeper.

Re: FOLLOW UP: Exhaust Cut Outs

I've looked through an Ultraflow and a Magnaflow and they look exactly the same but I think the Magnaflow sounds better and it comes with a warranty so i'll stick with those.
