Unhappy Re: Y-pipe or True duals ?

I have true 2 1/2 duals into thrush welded mufflers. I am wondering if I should have done the (2) 2 1/2 into a single 3" though? Its not bad just not loud/deep enough for me.

Re: Y-pipe or True duals ?

I have true duals, not sure what kind of mufflers the shop put on, but they are a knock off brand and sound like flowmasters. Im happy with my sound!

Re: Y-pipe or True duals ?

I have a y-pipe with no muffler. 3" to the Y and 2.5" to the 3.5" tips, I love the way it sounds.

Re: Y-pipe or True duals ?

You get better performance out of an X pipe. Has to do with the dynamics of scavenging between the banks firing order. Kinda like how a tuned muffler can make or ruin your day on a 2 stroke. You give up natural intake charge velocity enhancement by not having the two banks connected together at some point.

There's even the fancy way of finding the exact length of where the X needs to occur based on the temp rising in that section of exhaust. Done right, it's good for a dozen or more horsepower at very little expense per pony.

Too big of pipes also hurt torque. You need velocity in your exhaust to keep the pulse wave headed out sucking the charge coming into the chamber. That's why you make more power with more lobe overlap on your cam.

Re: Y-pipe or True duals ?

Duals are a waste for 99% of people on here, but if you do them at least put an x pipe in there.

Re: Y-pipe or True duals ?

i couldnt run the x-pipe on my truck or else i would have. the problem with my 2-link and laying frame would have just caused me more headaches. true duals where well worth the money. i am very very happy with it and the sound is amazing.
