What flowmaster muffler for a 96 Vortec

I am looking to put a flowmaster muffler on a 96 Tahoe with a Vortec motor. All the mufflers I have seen show the flow going the opposite direction I need it to since the stock muffler is DI/SO due to the factory design.

A few people have said you can mount the flowmaster in the reverse direction and it is fine.

Does anyone know if this is true?

If not then what is a decent aftermarket muffler I can mount in place of the stock exhaust to add a slight tone to it. I am not interested in going crazy loud since I plow with this truck.

Thanks!

Flowmasters are meant to flow one way and one way ONLY. They are not reversible.

Are you wanting to keep the DI/SO configuration of the factory muffler(just replace the muffler and leave the rest of the exhaust pipe as is)?

You'd be looking into a magnaflow or similar type muffler, they are reversible and you can run a DI/SO.

Personally, I'd take advantage of the dual pipes and run dual all the way out with an H-pipe. I am a Flowmaster guy, especially with a 350. My choice is the Super 40

x2 on what mykk said. although ideal would be to have all new pipes ran, true 2 inch or 2.5 inch duals into whatever mufflers you pick. i have a DI/DO magnaflow and i love it

Re: What flowmaster muffler for a 96 Vortec

Since I am going to be plowing with this truck over the winter I am wanting to keep it pretty quiet. My 95 Tahoe is all done with true duals so the 96 is going to be staying pretty much stock.

Since the stock replacement muffler is about $85 I figured why not put something with a little tone to it. The tail pipe is going to exit out the stock location as well.

That all being said I think I am going to look into a Magnaflow.

Re: What flowmaster muffler for a 96 Vortec

Flowmaster does make 2 different dual in single out mufflers. One is a 50 series SUV Performance for $119 or a 70 series for $132. Go with the 50! The 70 series is almost to quiet unless its dumped with a turndown. The 50 series dumped sounds cool but is not excessively loud. Hope this helps!

If you want to keep it quiet with a tone, go with a Flowmaster 50.

Re: What flowmaster muffler for a 96 Vortec

I ended up getting a Dynomax Turbo which is basically a stock replacement. Mounted it with duals in, and single out. Seems to be fine and it is quiet as a mouse.

Re: What flowmaster muffler for a 96 Vortec

I'd go with an H-pipe welded in and throw this muffler into it with duals out the back and 3" tips: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17637/
That sounds like a Flowmaster 40, but it's stainless with a lifetime warranty and a lot cheaper.
