So far I have less than $20 in pipes bought from the local auto parts store, and honestly if it wasn't for the goofy retarded assnine setup that GM put on this truck I would already be done with it by simply investing that $20 in a glasspack.......done.
Also, it would be nice if my 5.7 Vortec was in fact louder than my 6 yr old's battery powered razor scooter.
I know a simple dual kit woul do the trick, but I wasn't looking to spend much more than the price of a glasspack or something similar.
The 2 3/4" pipe is oddball too (go figure).
I still hope to get it done for far less than $100 and have 'some' sound.

I had that same train of thought last year, I had no cat and my 24" Magnaflow had a great tone and rumble but since it was so big I could barely hear it, so I decided to cut it off and run this:

That's an 18" Summit glasspack, the $20 one. It wasn't bad for the first couple weeks but once it burned out it wasn't much better than straight pipe, which I also know about
:
Where the cat used to be

And where the muffler used to be:
I got sick and tired of all that and I took it to a shop and gave them my Thunderbolt highflow cat, my 18" Magnaflow 3"si/2.5"do and had them replace the piping after the Y with 3" and also had my tips angled out the side since I couldn't afford tails and I thought the side exits looked cool, and they sure do I love them. I never regret once shelling out the money for it ($140 minus the cost of the cat, muffler and tips), sound quality is worth a few bucks.
