Question 95 chevy exhaust help???

Okay so i have a 95 chevy silverado ext cab short bed, its got the 5.7 engine in it... Currently has the flow master cat back kit which is a 40 series single in dual out muff.. Well my cat is rotting out and was thinking of doing headers and a new cat to hook up the existing muffler and tailpipes... Whats your opinion on it, i am on a tight budget of 500 or less for everything. What are good headers, and a oem cat or hi flow? I have to keep it street legal as my parents are nazis lol...

Thanks, Dylan

Re: 95 chevy exhaust help???

Hey big red I had a z-71 back in high school and I had long tube uncoated hooker headers, no cats, and dual 40 series flows. I got all this for about $450 at my local muffler shop. If u need a cat, or cats go with magnaflow they r probably the cheapest. Another way to keep the cost down is to go with shorty headers as there is no need to modify the existing exhaust. Edelbrock or Hedman make a good set of shorties for around $400 leaving u $100 for a cat and installation. Good luck man

Re: 95 chevy exhaust help???

I got a pair of Hooker Long Tube headers (2462HKR), the reducers (2.5", Summit brand), a Summit brand H-Pipe kit, and a pair of Dynomax Race Bullets from Summit for $394.70 shipped to my door. Sounds good, I have it dual exits in front of the right rear tire. I am about to put tips on it to make it deeper. Here is the link to see pics of it. Ignore the turn downs pic. http://rides.webshots.com/album/5750...es&vhost=rides

Re: 95 chevy exhaust help???

Unless your parents will crawl under the truck to check for cats, just run pipe and say you have highflow cats which are about as loud as no cats. Get some ceramic coated headers so they don't rust then run just piping to the muffler and tails, the lack of cats and having them welded in instead of running just pipes will keep the cost down.

Yeah. I pulled the metal piece out so it wouldn't fly out.
