2004 2500hd 6.0l straight pipe

Im new to this site and need opinions on what to do with the exhaust on my truck. Its a 2500hd with a 6.0l and i was planning on running 2 1/2" dual pipes from cat back and having them exit on each side of the truck at the corner of the bumper with
4"x18" tips. How will this sound? And im trying to find a place to do this for a decent price.

welcome to the site, im thinkin thats gonna sound real good! itll be real deep toned and loud thats for sure. The tips are going to set you back a bit, so if your not just going for looks, 3" tips will do you justice

I already bought the tips from summit and found a site that i can buy a kit that comes pre bent and ready to go for $200. The tips look exactly like the magnaflow, but the only difference is the ones i bought dont have the magnaflow logo on the end. And they were only $30 each.

tips must not be stainless then? if you can weld then that kit wouldnt be too bad, but you gotta think, itll cost you some labor getting that installed when you can probably find a shop to do it all for that or cheaper

or you can install a balance pipe and keep the factory 3" exhaust and not have to do any exhaust work at all. other than the balance pipe. and i say no go on straight pipes. but its your truck. post up sound clips when you get it done.

im not familiar with what a balance pipe is or does. so your saying keep the single stock exit and install a balance pipe in place of the muffler? i would like info on that because i might look more into that before i make a move. what kind of sound difference is there between the two.

your truck has 3" true dual exhaust from the converter back. the only part that isnt 3" is right after the manifolds there is a 2.5" reducer then it goes back to 3". a balance pipe is either an H pipe or an X pipe. it balances the air flow. most people agree it promotes low end torque as well. get rid of the stock muffler of course for something free flowing.

your truck already has dual exhaust from the factory. its 3" dual exhaust. no need to drop down to 2.5" unless you just want too.

Re: 2004 2500hd 6.0l straight pipe

right. then it goes into one 3.5" for the exit. i guess that wouldnt be too bad. the only thing is now i have to find out if summit will take back the tips. is that what you did to your truck?

yea. you can always drop back to 2.5 after the muffler if you want to keep the tips. youre gonna have to have new tubing installed after the muffler anyways.
