Cool whipple help
Hello all,

I'm new to forums but I hear you guys have a wealth of knowledge.

I wanted to buy diesel but after rethinking my needs vs. wants and given the current economy I've decided to keep "OLD GIRL" and freshen up a few things.

I have a 1994 Chevy Z71 with the original stock engine (350)5.7with 215k miles. The engine runs good and strong and gets approximately 16mpg. The engine uses no oil and has no leaks. The only thing I've done to the truck in the form of modifications is fabricate a cold air intake, install a K&N breather and 2 in lift kit. Everything else is stock and works well.

The truck isn't a daily driver however I want to use it on trips to tow ATV's to parks through the southeast towing a 20ft enclosed trailer. I'm not going to race the truck or anything like that, but I do want a good strong economical tow vehicle. If there is such a thing?

I have a Whipple supercharger for an 88-94 TBI truck. I’m not sure I have everything needed to install it, but I have the bracket that mounts to the engine block I believe it's for the belt tensioners etc... The boost control valve and that’s it no electronics etc….

I have a mechanical back ground and some of my friends are mechanics but none of us has installed a Whipple. I was hoping you guy’s would give me some advice on how and where to proceed.

Is my engine to old to install the supercharger? Am I asking for problems if I install it?

Would I be better off just waiting until this engine goes before installing the supercharger?

Thanks for the advice

MC

Re: whipple help
There is a thread on here with some pics of parts you need and directions. Do a search for "used Whipple".......in the mean time I'll try and find it.

Re: whipple help
I had to fab my stuff to fit because my Burb is right hand drive.
You will need some kind of booster pump to 'up' the fuel pressure when in boost. You'll also do well to have it tuned.
Best wishes

Re: whipple help
Mjet, post some pics and I will try and help where I can. I can give you the part # for the MSD pump booster that I am running if you would like. Once you post them we can go from there.

You are running a completely different set-up. He would need none of the parts you have.

Re: whipple help
Valid point, however I built my brackets via Autocad and Pro-E. So therefore I could help him out on the design aspect of the build.

I also have some friends at whipple that can send pictures, autocad drawings and what not for the parts they do not stock anymore. So, if he needs my help I will do what I can. A SC is a SC. No matter the setup, it does the same thing on every motor.

Re: whipple help
MSD part #2350 is a good boost-a-pump to use. Fairly easy to wire, instructions are good, and they are not to high in price.

I would say that 215k is a bit high to put a SC on. It might just create blow by that you didnt have before. However, you could put it on and make sure you like it. When the engine is ready for a rebuild, build it for the charger... low compression, hellfire rings, etc.

Re: whipple help
He won't need a boost a pump, just the right in tank fuel pump.

I don't know if he ever searched the info out like I stated earlier, but all that info was in those "other" threads.

Re: whipple help
I had one of those ebay pumps in my truck for the past 3 years...never a problem. Just pulled it out recently and did a Walbro 255 retrofit.
Best wishes
