Turbo Question.
Ok, I expected to have more into to search but this section is small.
00 Chevy 2500 4x4. 6.0 V8 Vortech. Turbo: GT45R ( should be spooled easily by this engine ) ![]() The W/A IC that I have laying around ( wish still needs pump, heat exchanger etc ) ![]() So, basically my questions are, where the hell would you suggest putting the turbo? I Really want to put it in the engine bay, somehow, to keep it away from the snow etc though I heard that its fine putting it near the exhaust on these trucks. Whats the max boost my truck could run? I am figuring maybe at most 6 to 8 psi, didnt find too much info on that. What can we use on these trucks for Fuel Managment? I use a laptop on my GSX. Sorry, not a lot of info in this section. HP Tuners is a must. Preferably with 2 or 3bar map sensor tune (and the correct sensor, obviously) I think GM has a 2-bar map that is a direct fit, the 3 bar needs a custom plug on the harness.
you can front mount the turbo using the stock manifolds (they can point up, down, forward or backward, depending on what you want your hot piping to look like. - Look at syclones and typhoons for inspiration. 8psi with an intercooler is plenty safe, 10psi is starting to push it. Meth injection helps the IATs tremendously and will let you get away with a little more boost. the rod bolts are weak, too much more than 450 to the wheels and you are asking for them to break, throw some arp rod bolts in there and it will be fine at 450-550rwhp.

Rod bolts have nothing to do with power output, that's rpm dependent. We have seen well over 600 to the tires with stock rod bolts over and over again below 6000rpm. That unit will make some serious power for sure.

sure is, and N/A engines are harder on rod bolts than turbocharged ones, but those bolts are a known weak point. why take a chance that you'll destroy an engine to save 150 bucks?

I made 825whp with a 93k mile junk yard lq9 with stock rod bolts at 5400rpm. Not going to switch them now. This was with a S374 BEP turbo in a 2005 6sp GTO.
