Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
what about effects on MPG? Anyone with a '96-'98 vortec with TM removed? If so, what kinda of miliage are you getting now as compared to before?
I have a '98 SWB 4wd and this removing TM is sounding like a good idea to me. I dont tow anything heavier than a small sedan, and thats not often. My day to day miliage is awful though, avg 13 back and forth to work.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
ok so with all this tm removal, does anyone have any tables to post on here, from a program like DST or hp tuners, that shows what they are changing to remove the tm. I think i have found most every table in the many lists of them that has to do with pulling timing under various TP readings, Tq multipliers, and other things in the tables.

THanks

Tim

oh and after fixing those pull-timing parts in the tables, my 1-2 shift is so frickin snappy, curious how long the trans will hold up being as how i used to have a nice flare on all shifts do to a injured tranny.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
I've read this form and searched, but I am still confused a little. Supposedly TM came out in 99, but was available in 93 with the 4l60e. So does my 96 Vortec 350 with the 4l60e with push button 4x4 have this TM crap? I know at times I wonder why my truck dogs for a second and then fires up like a beast awakened from a slumber under heavy throttle to accelerate.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
for those that care, removal of tm must be done through many tables in the spark, transmission,& system tables in you tuner program. The last one i found and just finished removing all TM was in the torque reduction vs abuse mode.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
how do you with 50% tm removed and then 100% removed with tow/haul like it? when you hit the button it would put it into tow/haul would it not?. anywho i got a superchips noticed nothin performance but upping the tranny pressure helped witht the shifting.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
My own guess is that all ECM and TM stuff is primarily for emissions control and fuel economy (not necessarily in that order). These are both driven by government regulations. Prolonging tranny life is probably a lower priority by comparison, only a matter of keeping it alive just as long as the factory warranty

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
Eh, not really, it doesnt make sense to pull timing since you get a more complete burn (read: better emissions) with more timing.

I kept some TM on the shifts, no need not to really.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
The sole purpose of TM and Abuse Mode is to save GM money by reducing the stresses that full power places on the drivetrain.Less warranty claims to fix equals more money for GM. TM has NOTHING to do with emissions.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
Wow, all 15 pages and I am more confused now. Will a custom tune fix my 2007 6 speed autos shifts. It shifts often and seemingly at the wrong time. Also, is a custom tune PCM hard to install? I want to keep the factory warranty. Thanks.

Yes, it will fix that, and no, they're not hard to install. I don't know about warranties though, my '00 is the newest vehicle I've ever owned.

Does GM offer any other "aftermarket" tune through the dealership? I know they do other performance parts through the dealership.

I have never heard of one, and if they do, it must suck.
