Heck, even my TBI pulled timing when I first romped on it, and then added more as it saw fit, and that was back in '95. Now with the TPI it just keeps the timing up there no matter what (asside from a knock). Of course the TPI computer thinks its in a 5 speed Camaro.

Torque Management Question
Great info, Question when you use a handheld tuner like Superchip does that also improve TM and stop timing retarding.
Thanks

I put my Predator in live data monitoring mode. I got a friend to ride with me and watch. From a dead stop to wide open throttle the timing went negative for a split second. I have a custom tune that is suppose to have all TM removed. I guess it doesn't.

Is the Predator supposed to remove all TM? My pcmforless tune will be here friday, he told me that he removes all TM.

It normally doesn't remove all. I had emailed diablo and they sent me a different tune that had more agressive downshifting and all of the TM removed. I guess that is why my 89 truck with a tpi and a 3:42 posi would smoke the tires from a stop with just throttle and my 03 with close to the same hp and a 3:73 won't break them loose on dry concrete.

So removing Torque Management is the reason why a TPI has such big gains in power vs. a TBI with a custom chip, right?

No,TPI is a much more efficient fuel injection system than TBI.

My SS has TONS of TM Half Throttle is my peak performance, after that I can hear and feel timing being removed all the way til WOT.

WOT downshift to 4000rpms and I have almost no power at all Gotta get that TM removed...

Maybe in power output but not in fuel effeciency. My TBI gets about 18 to 19 on the highway and it's still basically stock. My dads 02 gets about the same. He thinks I'm full of shiot but I'm not.

Well for a TBI 18-19 is pretty decent for HWY miles, but my 99' gets around 17 city and have gotten about 22 hwy. Heck even my old 98' w/ 5.7 got 16 city and 20 hwy.
I had a 95 5.7 w/ 4.10 gears and that thing was a dog, it just doesn't have the power and effeciency of the newer trucks.

So if they get close to the same mileage, and the new ones make 85 hp more, the TBI is more efficient?

I've never heard of a 5.3 getting 17/22. My friend's that have them here are seeing closer to 14/17.

The most I've ever heard was 21.

I would say that the TBI is the more efficient of the two.

TBI making 210hp getting under 20mpg
or new MPFI truck making 295hp in 5.3 or 345hp in 6.0 and getting 19-20mpg.

Thats a no brainer.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the torque that my TBI motor produced, especially with the Vortech on it. But it was nowhere near as efficient as the MPFI system. Especially when trying to get much above 4500 rpms...

Exactly my point and the only inefficient about the newer trucks is that damn Torque Management crap.
