Question Re: Torque Management
Great Post .... just getting around to real all the details.

Question .... I live in N. Idaho and this is not flat land. I go up 5-7% grade all the time. If TM is that sensitive ... would it defuel or retard timing when in an uphill climb? That may explain a little about uphill characteristics of the truck!
Here comes servo, trans kit and a call to Lyndon!

5-7% is not a steep climb at all. The standard cross-slope of a street is 2%.

I see .... so thats why they have run-away ramps for semi's on every street corner! Warning signs at the top and flashing lights on the way down! Dead logging-truck drivers by the #'s! I don't know where you live ... but's thats not the way it is here!

I design roadways, by profession. Everything you mentioned, has more to do with the horizontal alignment, not the vertical profile. All I said was that if the roads are steep enough that it bogs your truck down, they are much steeper than 7%.

btw...When you use an exclamation point at the end of every sentence, it loses its signifigance.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
wow i couldent understand why my truck got so nutless at high rpm. its better than it was, iv put on a **** load of mods and i still cant seem to get it to pull to redline so far custom cat back 3" to duel 2.5" flowtech muff ,punched cat, o2 simm, bosch pp4 plugs and bosch wires, throttle body spacer, intake, maf screen removed,msd6a,superchips micro max tuner. so far it feels like it pulls harder at higher rpm's with the msd6a

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
With the removal of the torque management function what will this do to the longevity of the transmission?

Will transmissons start craping out early because they are taking more abuse?

Depends on how you drive as well as power your truck makes. Anytime you allow more power to be put to a unit, it'll shorten its life.

I've been with out TqMgt for a long time. I'd say nearly 30K mi now... trans is in great shape. BUT, I have a TransGo kit in there (corrects many internal flaws), both of the heavier billet apply servos, and some assorted Sonnax parts too. I estimate my HP around 255-270rwhp currently with my few mods and tune. Also I change my ATF every 10K mi, it's very inexpensive ($1.20/qt).

One of my buds has a truck with about 70K mi and he's been with out TqMgt for longer than I have been... he's got a stock 4L60E, no valve body work at all. But also makes closer to 300rwhp I'd say as he has a 212/218 Comp Cam also.
Tall, Short, Big, Small... I'll do them all.

What do you do if the one person that you love and comforts you, is the one that makes you cry?

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
Anyone else notice this, or am I delusional:

With a stock programmed truck I think I get off the line quicker by rolling into the throttle. Apply a little brake torque with the left foot and then go from idle to WOT over the course of about 1/3 or 1/2 of a second. I've always felt like my truck(s) bogged when I just stuffed my foot into the throttle off the line, but by rolling into it I can even see a bit of wheelspin. Now that I see your data, I'm getting the idea that I'm avoiding most of the TQ mgmt program by doing this.

Someone go try it...my new truck only has 450 miles on it so it hasn't even seen 75% throttle yet.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
My truck is the same way even though its a TBI. I never floor it off the line because it seems to bog down and I try to go easy on the tranny.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
No one ever really answered the question about TM on 96-98 Vortec's authoritatively. I wish I had a scanner handy. I'd go try it out myself and see what the timing does. I can tell you that I see the same type of thing in my 98 5.7: If I kill the throttle off the line, it's a dog. If I ease into it a bit, then kill it, the truck seems much more responsive. Even still, I'd like to know the true story about how much TM is applied in my truck with a stock tune.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
I have a Westers tuned PCM,and I have autptap, yes it is great tool to have. When my trucks shifts from 1st to 2nd it accually has 2 degrees of advance timing,0KR.That is why my shifts are so quik and firm,I also have a TCI billet servo which helps the shifts, plus the Westers PCM.My timing is at 29.5 degrees at WOT.I would post a graph but I do not know how to.

Re: Torque Management: Pics of how it works
Scion, yes the 96-98 does pull timing also if you do not have a custom tuned PCM.
Also, how did you post those graphs man,I would like to know how so I can post mine.

All I did was press Shift-PrtScr on the keyboard. I then pasted it into Microsoft Paint and saved it as a .JPG. I hen copied it to my website and added the link

Perfect description of WOT in 6.0L. My SS acts similar, but usually only when it kicks down a gear.
