COT Protection question
Should I leave this enabled, or should I disable it?
What would disabling do for me? I read a lot about people disabling this, but they don't say why ![]() ![]() '07 Sierra Denali - 6.2l L92, 6L80E, AWD w/3.42s, HPTuners, Innovate LM-1, Volant CAI, 160* t-stat, N-Fabs, 2.5" leveling kit and 285/65/18 Nitto TGs |

Re: COT Protection question
What COT protection does is richen up the AFR when the PCM has determined that the temps of the CATs may be at dangerous levels (calculated by airflow, AFR, duration, etc). Typically, it can cause AFRs to richen up excessively at the top of second gear, leaving you deep in the 10s or even 9.x:1. By disabling COT protection, your mixture won't richen up to this power robbing level.
The downside is your catalytic converters probably won't last quite as long as they will otherwise if you're on the throttle a lot. ![]() EFI University's EFILive Course Instructor, Black Bear Performance 2003 Silverado SS. Radix. LS6 Cam 2002 Trans Am WS6. |

Re: COT Protection question
I have found on my LT1 the COT seems to operate a LOT more than I like, so I finally bumped up the cat overtemp temps to 900C, never see it running anymore. But I will pulling the cats soon to replace anyway, but many new high perf GM cars are running the 900C temps on the converters.
I don't recommend messing with unless you have no cats or don't care if they melt and get plugged up....
