411 pcm
I am wondering about the 411 pcm being emissions legal in illinois. They hook a scanner to the computer and check for any codes. if no codes you pass. Would my truck pass if I had this pcm in my 1996 truck? Also, how come you can tune anything on the 411 pcm but you cant change the vin in the pcm to accept the right vin. it doesnt make sense to me why you have to use the vin off a 2000 van with a 5.7l? If anyone knows please let me know. I have been hearing alot about efilive but am confuse about the product. if someone can explain what is needed and what you r buying that would be great. I am a mechanic and reading the website actually got me lost in what i was reading. sorry guys but i still like old school. back in the B.C. era (B.C. stands for before computers) thank you

Re: 411 pcm
The only reason people say to start with a 2001 Express Van VIN, is to have the correct starter tune for your truck. You can input your VIN into the van tune. I have passed Emissions in Cook County Illinois with the mods in my sig.

Re: 411 pcm
In addition it was the 2001 and 2002 fillsize vans that use this more modern 411 PCM in conjunction with teh older GEN 1e Vortec 350/305 engines. You need to use the Van tune because its a mesh of the newer PCM and older engine.

You dony have to ise teh vin from a 2001-2002 van, you just have to use teh base tune from a 2001-2002 van. You do need to have a vin from a 2001-2002 van in order to loacte the correct tune for a 411 PCM that controls a Vortec 305 or 350 engine.

I hope that sheds some light.

BTW Using a 2000 van tune wont work as that still uses teh older PCM, you need a 2001-2002 Van tune.

You will have p[proiblems passing emissions so long as you have teh VIN from your 1996 truck flashed onto the 411 PCM with a tune from a 2001-2002 van.
