I trick to make your maf work if you cut the screen out is to turn the maf, if you connector is on the top try rotating the maf so it is on the bottom.

The screen helps to evenly distribute the incoming air evenly over the sensor elements, if you remove the screen and get a CEL more than likely air is moving too quickly on one side of the maf due to turbulence or bends in tubing.

Rotating it will make the gas mileage better?

what? lol, if you removed the screen in your maf and your getting a check engine light rotating your maf can correct the CEL

MAF = only so good to begin with, like tricking out a corolla.

The factory engineers just get the VE table "close enough" and use the MAF to get it "a little closer"

MAF is only accurate +/- about 4%. Your upstream o2 sensors through your long-term-fuel-trims correct for this error.

MAF works well in steady-state airflow, meaning if your're not moving the accelerator. Once you enter transients, MAF is nowhere near accurate (its too far away from the cylinders, air takes a second to catch up). Your speed density tables help out during these transients.

If you want good results that require a lot of time reading logs and retuning, completely remove the MAF and run off the MAP sensor and VE table. Much better throttle responce at the cost of time and money (hptuners/efilive)

if the ID of the what your putting the sensor into is the same as what it came out of, you should be okay
