Re: poppet cleaning??

For some reason AllData is down right now, I was going to post the TSB about it for you. There is actually special cleaner GM recommends for cleaning them but really you can just use some carb/brake cleaner and spray the **** out of it.

Or you could send them out to a fuel injection place and get the inside and outside cleaned really good.

Re: poppet cleaning??

just get some atf that is the safest bet it will eat all the carbon off without eating the plastic off unlike carb cleaner i let them soak overnight and took a rag and rub right off like butter

Re: poppet cleaning??

I have replaced hundreds if not thousands of the GM poppet injectors. The TSB for unsticking them rarely works. They almost always need to be replaced. When I changed intake manifold gaskets on the 5.7 I would spray each injector with WD-40. This seemed to prevent a problem. There is a updated injector assembly available from GM.

Re: poppet cleaning??

I took mine and soaked them in a pan of gas and then used a dental pick to get all the junk from around the ends and found that they have 4 slots on the side and those were all clogged.. After cleaning what seemed like a pound of carbon off them I sprayed them down with carb cleaner and then Brake cleaner. Have had no problems with them since then .

Re: poppet cleaning??

So...you saying, I can soak the entire assembly in some ATF overnight and the carbon will be gone?

And by assembly, I'm including the electric plug, regulator, the housing thingy, the lines, and the injectors. Soaking all that is fine?
