I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
Since may I have been trying to figure out a problem with bad logs, which turned out to be bad block, piston etc. The new engine is in place and hooked up only I can't get it to run anymore. My previous tune which was rough to begin with, barely let the engine run enough to make it around the block so I could get a starting point with editing the ve table. Oldred pointed out to me that I had overlooked the 2 bar map so I installed one, but now the engine doesnt run at all for me
![]() I have no idea where to go from here. I figure that I will unhook the S/C enrichment system until I can get a running tune and then I will go back to it after everything is running ok. Is anyone online that could give me a helping hand so that I can start tuning this thing? I am on both MSN and Yahoo messenger (both in my profile) I am about 15 feet away from the computer when I am sitting in the truck so I may not hear you instantly but I will check every few minutes. Thanks in advance

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
90lb injectors , 19-20 psi based on pillar guage (I havent verified it against known good guage yet) with manual AFPR.
It was running before with the previous engine, but different heads, cam, intake this time round. (went from vortec heads to aluminum etc) I expected it to have some driveability issues, but not like this.

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
OK, so I had an issue with a bent pin on the aldl connector which was screwing things up pretty good. When I fixed that and plugged the ecm back in with the 1 bar map, it started up perfect and runs fine (I know it'll still need tuning, but it sounds normal) I shut down and went back to the 2 bar map, it needed pedal to start and wouldn't idle. I am still having issues with my laptop so anytime I unplug one of my usb devices, it locks up, so I'm gonna go get my scanner to take the map reading instead.
I personally have not made any changes to the bin since it was done on the last engine (never made it that far yet) ![]()

heres a copy of my bin and I'm using 0D_v1_02.xdf I have not made any changes to it myself from what I had someone else program for the previous motor. I have done a whole lot of reading on the subject but I have yet to do any tuning on my own yet. I'm going to try and return my wifes movie with the truck right now, hopefully I can get a decent log to work with.

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
Well I got a decent log this time and the truck drove well (stock map) I edited the ve table for off idle and when I started it up I noticed that it was still idling really rich. I realized I forgot to edit the near idle ve table and tried to make a quick few edits to make it run leaner. That didn't work so well and the truck ran really lean, so I ran back to the other computer again and used the toolbox to richen it up, then the truck wouldn't start
![]() I said screw it and went for another drive with only the main ve table edit and it went well, until I pulled back into my shop. I paused datamaster and I was going to take a log of the KOEO with each map sensor, then try to get a small read KOER with both sensors so I can try and create a reference point to see the ratio difference between the 2 sensors (I am hoping to do a mass edit to the ve tables so I have a runnable starting point) When I paused datamaster, my computer decided to shut itself down so I don't even have the 2nd log to see how my edits did.I think I am going to give up for the day and head out to the bar. I'll get back on it whenever I get up tomorrow and hopefully my laptop will cooperate with me a little. Does anybody know if all of the different tuning software will work with Vista? I will likely buy a new laptop and most of them come with Vista as the OS so I'd like to know before hand if there are going to be any issues.

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
I have seen a few reports that TunerProRT will work, I have not tried it myself.
Off of the DataMaster site: DataMaster software runs on the Windows 98, 2000 ME, NT, & XP operating. Might need to e-mail them to find out.

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
I have it running now, actually it feels pretty good. I have done 2 ve edits so far and I'm proud to say I must have done something right
(I screwed up a couple of times too, but thats ok ;) )I started a new thread (new thread) to try and stay on track with each subject. I am trying to find hacks (or code) for the 2 bar map and WB O2, I'm not quite ready to try experimenting with that type of editing yet. I spent approx 20 hours reading yesterday and found a huge thread at another forum and it sounds as if Fast305 is currently working on a project with a 2 bar map on a 7427 so I guess I'll have to wait and see. I can't decide if I should keep playing with the ve tables or if I should wait and see what comes up. I'll be taking some pics of the motor today (both my guys didn't show up for work this morning ) so I figure I'll update some of my old threads instead of working.

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
after looking at the ve tables from the bin posted, they seem extremely lean compared to my tables. what map reading does the engine idle at with that cam? im guessing its a high map value right?

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
Map is at approx 50KPa at idle, I'm pretty sure the S/C is affecting the map readings some, even at idle.
I'm running 20psi on 90pph injectors so that may be why it appears leaner than your bin (it was actually running fairly rich according to BLMs)

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
Yah, you do look a little lean in in the lower areas. The BLM is based off of averaging the O2 voltages (you already knew that). You may need to alter your O2 rich/lean/mean voltages.
You should idle around 38-42 Kpa (in drive, warmed up). It's a fine balance of fuel vs spark to get the idle **** on. Don't trust the NB O2 sensor too much! Your typical idle airflow amount is like 15-20 g/sec. Notice how the lower airflow voltages for the O2 go leaner for the INT/BLM? It's a stock thing, a lot of bins I've looked at do this. I know you've already spent a lot on your setup, but a wideband would give you a bunch of insight on what's going on that you can't get with a narrowband O2. If you've read my thread about O2 settings, you'd notice that I had to change my O2 settings a lot. My computer was averaging 15.3 AFR--with INT/BLM at 128/128. I was like, 'well, the BLM's are good, so I must be good'. The wideband let me know I was lean and now I'm running right. ![]() ![]() Still building up to the SAS... That is something I'm hoping to take care of and brought it up in my other thread. How do I go about using my wideband? (already have it installed) I just don't know if I am supposed to use it instead of or along with my NB sensor.

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
I take it you don't have a stand-alone display for the WB
-edit take some timing out of the spark tables, possibly. I know the F/I setups run less timing than N/A ones do. still looks like a pretty healthy SA table, probably too much ![]() ![]() Still building up to the SAS... Last edited by 91chevZ71 : 01-28-2008 at 02:50 PM. |

Re: I need help with programming ecm for new motor ,wont start anymore :(
I made this using a spreadsheet that I can't take credit for.
Compare the g/sec injector flow and cyl displacement to your stuff, might wanna change it and see what happens. Also, raise your injector offset by about 150 sec (the entire thing). ![]() ![]() ![]() Still building up to the SAS... |

Thanks for posting the figures, I had it all calculated before but I forgot that I had done it at 15psi. off by 4 Grms/sec Do you remember where you found the spreadsheet? Quote:
No I don't have one, unfortunately I didn't see the use of having a stand alone display I haven't even looked at the timing tables yet, not that far in my studies yet. I've been reading steady for months but have not had anything to experiment with so I haven't actually tried to apply anything that I may have learnt (sorry it took so long for the reply, I have 5 windows open, still reading )

your injector size and fuel psi has nothing to do with your ve table. the ve table is affected by cam, heads, manifold, etc... what kind of wideband do you have? you need to get the wideband hooked up and in your logs.
