Post Re: 16 and need help on swap
thanks for the direction. i have another question off the tip of my head actually a few. First as far as i know the 5.7 is a (350)
what is a 5.3? i would like to stick with tbi but should i think about going over to a carb motor? i have heard that would be more of a pain because the trans. would not shift without the computer. also people have said i would get really bad gas milage with a carb. my uncle has a 350 tbi in his truck now a scotsdale 89 4x4. he gets better gas milage than me and his performes a good bit better than mine. I have the stock 4.3 in the truck and don't know if its a vortec or not i don't think so though is there a way i can tell.

Question Re: 16 and need help on swap
i found this on a different site (just searchin) and was wondering if any budy could tell me if it is true.:::::?

is this truck TBI? if it is as far as i know the original wiring should work. just get 350 injectors
however i have heard that the computer might shut off the 350 at 4800 rpm because the computer think its still the v6 and its revving much higher. that was in a newer dime though it may be different for TBI FSC's

I heard somewhere else i would have to splice in two more wire for the injectors ? so in other words PLEASE HELP

Re: 16 and need help on swap
your 4.3 should still be TBI in 93, so swapping to a 5.7 shouldnt be a big deal at all. all of your accessories (alt, ps, ac compressor, and their associated brackets) will bolt right on. IIRC tbe TB on the 4.3 is a little smaller than the 350, though not a huge deal. swap in a set of 4.3 injectors, a v8 ditributor, and a 350 ECM for your year (i know a guy who has one ) and you should be good. worst case you'll have to extend a couple wires, but everything should be the same to make it work.

Re: 16 and need help on swap
If only it was that easy to tell it more power. lol. it changes all the paramiters af ratio, timing, ect. getting the right mixture of it all is the trick. And a 5.3 is a 327 if im not mispoken. let us know how the swap goes. Do you have the other stock motor out?

Damb it i hate it when someone posts the same time as me and beats me to the punch lol

Re: 16 and need help on swap
it actually works out to 325ci, and while the 4.8 and 5.3 share a similar overall displacement, the bore and stroke combinations are immensely different.

Re: 16 and need help on swap
wow, ok thanks. no the stock motor ain't out yet i have to drive the truck for a while longer until i can get the spare truck on the road. i will be doing this mostly myself and i have never done it before but i have read on it since i got the truck two years ago. I also worked in a garage under a ase certified mechanic for a while. so i think i have got a good idea on how to do it. so now i am finaly going to attempt (can't learn if you don' try i guess) I really want to do the swap because the truck itself has value to me. that and i really like the idea of it being mine u know, if i put it togehter the right way and later on something goes wrong I can fix it. so i want to get everything straight before i jump in. so please keep all the ideas, suggestions, tips, tricks, and so on coming because i am using all of it thanks.

Re: 16 and need help on swap
i would get a buddy to help you, an extra set of hands is VERY nice to have when swinging a motor.
