Tuning a Whipple with the EBL
Since the truck isn't my DD anymore, I decided to get crazy and bought a nice looking used whipple. We'll see when it gets here...
More importantly, I'm looking forward to running the EBL to its full potential.!!
Things I need...
one range cooler plugs, 2 bar map, gauges, autometer FP gauge, instructions from whipple, probably some other crap.
Concerns-
camshaft in the 350HO.
non- forged internals.
I figure I can tune it mild and take it from there.
Thoughts? Advice?
I'll follow the install and tuning in this thread with pics and stuff :)

I was just thinking about you this morning at work, I hadn't run across your post in a while on here. Whipple sounds sweet. I would go with AC R42LTS plugs and a Wells SU58 (2-bar MAP). On the Wells MAP you can pull the little piece out inside that keeps your existing connector from sliding into place.
Non-forged internals, NON issue if you keep it a little rich, keep the boost under 7-10 psi, setup the boost retard tables, and run GOOD gas. IIRC, you are at high altitude, so that will help keep your boost in check and octane requirements lower.
I thought you had put the roller LT4 cam into your trucks HO 350? If you still have it, its the PERFECT cam for boost with its high lift, aggressive lobes, and WIDE LSA.

What's up man
Yah, I'm in North Carolina right now until next August for military training (been in the field almost non-stop since this Aug). This thick air is AWESOME
I still have the LT4 cam, I figure I'll have my old man ship it over here. Thanks for the P/Ns. Yah, can't use platinums.
I'm curious about whipple's FPR...it's gotta be vac-regulated.
Wonder if I'll need it with 90's. Probably.

Thick air are you nuts? I hate it.
I thought you were gonna stop through Enid on your way? Stood me up did ya huh?
I wouldn't worry about the cast components. Be smart about it and you should be fine. Hows your 700R4 holding up? I went and got a 4L80E and put in mine Good to hear from you though, its been too long.

Re: Tuning a Whipple with the EBL
Yah, I wanted to spend as much time with the NEW and much lower-maintenance lady-friend as possible. haha
The tranny is doing great, thank god. How do like that 80? Notice any difference?
-edit
nice to have 100 MAP available all the time, instead of 78-81 Kpa.
-edit #2
I'll have more than 100 soon haha

Ok.
Its pretty nice. Had a little line pressure issue come up this weekend but I think thats taken care of now.
I guess when you don't know any different its nothing special. I just hate humid thick air.
I could with ram air.

Re: Tuning a Whipple with the EBL
Well that's cool. It comes with a VRFPR. I need to email whipple for instructions.
I might run the GM VRFPR...I bet this one has a big spring that will make my 90's go bonkers
The shaft has no play in it whatsoever, which is kinda nice. The whole idler arm assembly looks like a nightmare...
the list so far...
-flexible fuel lines
-bore whipple baseplate to 50mm
-instructions, new hardware from whipple
-autometer 0-30 electric FP gauge/kit
-boost gauge, trans temp gauge kit
-pillar pod
-plugs
-2 bar map
-t stat housing, upper rad hose
what else
-why are there 1" coolant hoses in the box? I can't think of any coolant that needs to be re-routed

Re: Tuning a Whipple with the EBL
before you put it on. take the 6 allen heads out of the drive and check the green coupler peice. also a good time to change the oil in it. IF you need the green coupler i have a source locally.

Re: Tuning a Whipple with the EBL
its a green plastic peice. once you take the drive off. you cant miss it. I think the bolts are 5.5 allens. I can show you which bolts in your picture if you like?

Re: Tuning a Whipple with the EBL
I know where to take the drive off, I was wondering what to look for on the green piece itself. Any kind of wear marks, etc
THanks man

Re: Tuning a Whipple with the EBL
if it shows any wear replace it. IT is the blowers safety coupler. IT will melt if it gets to hot due to lack of oil. to save the blower from destroying itself.

Re: Tuning a Whipple with the EBL
wow, havnt seen you post in forever. your kit looks literally, exactly like mine, down to the air filter. the 1" coolant lines tie in right behind the tbi, it acts like the heated riser that came on the big block chevys i guess. that regulator is not vacuum referenced, it is boost referenced. while your motor is operating under vacuum, its just stock fuel pressure, or whatever you have the regulator on the tbi setup to, once the boost hits it will kick it up. right now im running 80# injectors and i have the regulator kicking 30psi under boost and im still having trouble getting enough fuel when i give it the gas and it down shifts, it makes the boost instantly and has a big lean spot right when it hits that im having a hard time tuning out, im also 13 running pounds of boost tho. you better hope that the tensioner is still good, when it goes the only replacement for it is one from a corvet which you can only get a the dealer for about 110$. looks like you got a really complete kit, if you need any help on where things go or anything, i got the same thing as you, so just let me know. good luck.
o yea, and that plastic pulley i see on the tensioner wont work, the lip on it makes it too wide and it will make contact with the bracket it is mounted on, you need to use that tensioner but with a stock style stamped steel pulley on it. that tensioner gave me hell when it went bad a while ago lol.
