Re: 5.7 vortec vs. 5.7 hemi
I owned a 2009 Ram crewcab short box 4X4 with the Eagle 5.7 and 392 gears. I say owned because I sold the truck in the end of October after 10 frustrating months of ownership. Loaded Laramie and yes, inside it was a nice truck. For about the first 3000 miles it wasn't too bad. I raced my friends extended cab short box 5.7 powered 08 Tundra and beat him at the track. Problem was it just seemed to get slower and slower..... I nearly lost to an 03-06 GMC extended cab.... cheap truck, just an SL so at best a 5.3 and it had stock exhaust. Maybe it was modded, who knows. Then a friend bought a 97 Chev extended cab short box Z71 with 373 gears and a 350 Vortec. He paid a whopping $1500 for it and the truck has over 200000 miles on it.... and is stock down to the air box and exhaust. I couldn't beat him either. He would always come back from behind. That was the end. 390 hp and 407 lb ft my @SS. I don't know where, when or how.
That be said I wanted a 6.2 powered GM again with the Max trailer package and 373 gears.... Problem is my daily driver is a company provided 09 GMC 3/4 ton with the 6L90E. It has slipped on the 2nd to 3rd shift since 1000 miles and isn't getting any better. GM can't fix it either.... no codes, no procedure. Learned on another forum it's pretty common with the guys with the 6.2 and 6L80E. Aftermarket tuning doesn't fix it either.... No biggie, just saves me the hassle of spending my money on aything new truck wise for quite a while.
