Re: 5.7 vortec vs. 5.7 hemi
Save yourself the humiliation. He'll win every time unfortunatley. Just tell him that it doesn't matter since mommy and daddy paid for it. It ain't HIS truck so he wouldn't be beating you, his parents would. that'd probably shut him up.

Re: 5.7 vortec vs. 5.7 hemi
Its going to come down to the truck unfortunately. The Hemi's are not as fast as the numbers would lead you to believe. They are lucky to crank out 240 hp and 280 ft/lbs to the wheels stock. They are heavily governed by torque management stock. If its a quad cab, they are very heavy. Some of the quad cabs came with 3.55 gears and 20" talls, they are very doggy leaving the line. A good running RCSB or RCLB chevy 1500 with the 5.7 vortec should have now issue hanging with or even dusting a 5.7 Quad Cab Hemi. If the truck you are going to race is a RCSB 2wd 5.7 Hemi, FORGET it. The Hemi will walk you everytime.

I agree with the above statement. My old man has a 97 ECSB 5.7 Silverado and it walks it out my my fiance's uncles quad cab 04 hemi ram. both are 2wd. Doesnt beat it bad, but it does beat it. Do intake, and remove the restriction on your TB and you should free up some power to help you with the race.

I didnt know the hemis were governed that badly. I drove a buddys and it seems pretty strong, super smooth I remember. Makes since though it seems the torque curve on the hemis are up there a ways compared to the good ol vortec.

Re: 5.7 vortec vs. 5.7 hemi
Like everyone else said, it depends on the configuration of the trucks. If it's a Quad Cab and you have an extended cab, both 2wd, I'd say you'd get him from a dig and he's catch up but he'll win out from a roll most likely. The only real way to find out is to take it to the track and run it.

No Chevy should be scared of Mostly Old Parts And Rust (Unless it has 6 cylinders and rattles) ... Sneak in a small shot of nitrous with the nozzle in front of the mass air meter ...

I'd say you might have a good chance, especially if he likes to talk ****, he might forget to hit the gas. Off topic but, nice truck Hatfieco.

Re: 5.7 vortec vs. 5.7 hemi
I have real time slips proving this statement. My 98 4dr Tahoe with mods listed in signature and a 07 Ram Hemi crew cab with factory 20's with a flowmaster exhaust, cold air intake and a edge evolution programmer. I ran 16.3 and he ran 16.2...I had him off the line and all the way up the the last 100feet or so before the end of the 1/4 mile. I had him by a a lot until about 70mph when he crept past me. We both put a 1/4 tank of gas in our trucks and I had a passenger and he did not. This was my close freind that loved to run his mouth saying his hemi would work my tahoe..well I proved him wrong and gave him way more a run than he thought.
