tips on good launch

Okay guys need a bit of help with launching my truck. i have a 02 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 with the 5.3 LM7. I have some bolt ons and a tune, i am running 275/55r20 tire/wheel setup. What is the best way to launch my truck with some wheel spin but enough traction to get a good 60ft time? If i load my trans to 1100 rpm i get a somewhat decent launch. If i go up to 1500 i get some bad wheelspin. Should i still load it to 1500 and just ease off the brake while giving it gas?

Re: tips on good launch

Try doing a little burnout before you stage, and get the tires sticky. Dont do a powerstall, just floor it until the tires stop spinning, hold it at about 1300 and nail it on green. Try that.

Re: tips on good launch

try droppin a few psi in the tires...you dont need to spin street tires at all..from what everyone says, it just wears them down and you get no noticable grip..

since your 4x4, just launch in 4x4...right after the 1-2 shift hit it back to 2wd..many people do it that way with great results..wont hurt anything, and your 60' time will be much better

Re: tips on good launch

alright ill give the 4x4 a try. I think i have tried it before but i cannot recall.

The reason why my tires spin so easily when i power brake is beacuse i advanced timing in the 1-1.8k rpm range. I was testing my launches tonight and after i retarded the timing 4 degrees i was able to brake boost to the max stall without any tire spin. I advanced it 7 degrees and i was not able to get max stall without spinning my tires.

Re: tips on good launch

You'll need to get rid of the 20's if you want a good launch, and you DONT want ANY spin off the line.

Re: tips on good launch

I agree, simply punch it from idle.

Lower rear tire pressure a bit.

peace

Re: tips on good launch

Lower the tire pressure a little, do a SMALL burnout (just enough to clean them off), Hold the brake and gas it just enough to get off idle (around 900rpm will be plenty) Then roll into the gas pretty quick and be off your way
