What to do?
The tran's (4l60e) in my 98 is probably within a month of kicking the bucket. My truck is used for commercial snow plowing, daily driver, and towing around 7k once in a while. Now my question, is it worth the upgrade to a 4l65e (or maybe an 80e) instead of rebuilding and upgrading my 4l60e? I know nothing about either trans so I'm looking for ideas of which would be better for the job and/or the most cost effective to build.
4l60e? 4l65e? 4l80e? This is what the trans has to support pushing most of the winter. ![]() 9.7ft with the wings on. And I'd like to get a 20-25ft trailer for hauling atvs and our 1941 JD B tractor and the occasional bobcat. Thanks 454ss98 K1500 03 suzuki z400 Quote:

Re: What to do?
the 4L80e will be an expensive retrofit.
You can get your 4l60e rebuilt with 4L65E parts or better aftermarket parts IE beast sunshell and better clutches. When my 4L60E bit the dust I upgraded to a beast sunshell, raybestos Z-pack clutches, already had the vette servo and transgo hd2 shift kit. I had mine rebuilt locally with a 3 year 36000 mile warranty. They also installed a rebuilt torque converter and new seleniods and wiring harness. I would call around to different transmission shops(not aamco) see what they charge for a rebuild with upgraded parts mentioned above. If there parts prices are outrageous shop online for the parts. pm PBA for a good recommendaion for parts list and go here for rebuild kits: http://www.700r4l60e.com/ O2 GMC RCSB 4.8L V8 AUTO 3.73'srebuilt/beefed up 4L60E(at 43,000miles) TRAIN HORNS(see pics in my gallery)
