Re: The Teardown And Rebuild! Pics Inside!
I'd double check all those grounds, and possibly get the battery tested. My optima has been good to me the past 3 years or so I've had it, but when my truck sits, I can't let it sit more than like 3 days without starting it or it dies on me. I just charged it up and got it running again today because it died on me almost 2 weeks ago when I tried to warm it up. Now I'm gonna have to go start it up every 2-3 days if I want to keep it charged...

This is the 2nd Optima Red Top I've had. The first got to where it wouldnt even hold but like 2 volts. So swapped it out under warranty.

I think mine might be starting to go, because I have one in my car too and it'll start up fine after a week. Too bad I can't replace it for free anymore...
Maybe you should just try a regular battery?

Re: The Teardown And Rebuild! Pics Inside!
I'm on my second redtop here as well, Drew. My advice is to take it to an Advance/Autozone/O'Reilly's and have them do a test like Sterling mentioned.

I did have it tested while in the truck but the voltage was already down so it really didnt work. I need to charge it up and see what happens. Its been fine so far though, just all of a sudden. I parked to get gas, filled it up. Came back out and it wouldnt turn over. Kept hittin the switch and it finally did and once started it only had like ~10 volts and wouldnt gain while I revved, turned off all accessories and that gained me like .25V ha.

It cant's drain down that quick! Maybe it's actually a problem with your starter?? Either, it's drawing too many amps and straining the alternator or the heat from you exhaust is messing it up??? I know after driving a while and I park a few minutes, I go to start it and it cranks over much slower. Just some suggestions.

Re: The Teardown And Rebuild! Pics Inside!
Sounds like parasitic draw problems/ and or, defective products to me. My Optima is over eight years old. My truck can sit all winter, and start right up.
Heat soak from headers will cause starters to turn slow.

Re: The Teardown And Rebuild! Pics Inside!
Drew says he's gonna have this thing ready for the 2010 show season. I told him I wish I got paid for every year that I've heard him say that. Haha. I'll believe it when I see it. Going to shows just to look at other people's stuff isn't as fun. Better get to work! :)
