Re: Chevelle tear down + rebuild!!

good to hear that your getting it all back together. Thats a shame that such a beautiful car got destroyed. You think youll have problems getting it all straightened out or do you think itll go together fine? Seems like your gonna have to do some serious work on that frame. Other than that everything else seems doable. Good luck with everything.

You may have worked on this one before. I actually bought it in Ohio, a small town on the Indiana border. Drove out there after work on a Friday, left about midnight, got there in the morning loaded it up and drove back. It was a long weekend.

I have a buddy that bought an original LS-6 for $3500 back in the mid 80s :). It has sat since then awaiting restoration. Pretty nice savings account right there :)

I have a '66 300 Deluxe with 48k thats all original except the drive train. Its got a healthy 427 now :)

Nice. Any pics of the 66?

Also there is a site you might have already seen for Chevelle's : www.chevelles.com I have the same user name there.

Re: Chevelle tear down + rebuild!!

Quick update.

I sent the pictures of the frame to my insurance people and they want to come back out so that they can see it now that all of the sheet metal is out of the way and get a better idea as to the extent of the damage. The adjuster is coming out on Monday. Bad part about that is I was going to pull the drivetrain tomorrow but I think I'll leave it so that they can see how much the frame has shifted. Especially since they thought the only frame damage was on the passenger side. I'll let you guys know what happens

And how did you explain to your wife what all that beating on the car was with a sledge hammer?

Is that the factory lemans blue paint? Thats the colour my nieghbour is painting my neighbour is paint his 69ss. Looks worse then what i expected. That realy sucks. Another question how did you get the insurance company to let you work on the car ? All the company's around here wont let you touch the car unless you buy it back fomr the company.

No hammers involved. I let Ken have the really bad stuff!

Actually the day we started he had been to the gym and done a pretty good arm work out so when we were fighting the bumper bolts that have had 37 years to get comfortable he was hurtin.

It is actually a Corvette color, 96 Quasar Blue.

I can work on it because it's mine. My insurance company is still working the under insured motorist claim to see if the amount I got from the other guys company is enough to fix it or get a comparable replacement. They havent said that's it's totaled so I havent had to buy it back.
