OBS CC longbed to Shortbed conversion Info
I was considering converting an OBS long bed crew cab to short bed. I have seen this done on OOBS Chevy's with good results. But the OBS has alot more curves in the frame at that area. I realize I will have to modify the drive shaft and use a shortbed gas tank and brake lines and all that stuff. In 99 and 2000 these trucks were available in this configuation but finding a frame has yielded nothing and the trucks are still going for more than I am willing to spend for a clean one. This is a 4x4. If anyone has done this or know of anyone or have a link or info to it I would much appreciate it. My search's have not turned up much.

Re: OBS CC longbed to Shortbed conversion Info
Hello, its a different route, but you could take a 1/2 or 3/4 ton extended cab short bed frame, and add 13 inches in between the middle and back set of cab mounts. The cab mounts are the same height for ext. cab and crew cab, the only difference is the middle cab mounts are spaced a 1/2 inch further towards the outsides of the cab, you could recut your stockers, or if you have the skill to lengthen the frame, just build a new set of middle cab mounts. As for the driveshaft, you can use a stock ext. cab front half of the two piece driveshaft, including the carrier bearing and crossmember, in its stock location, but swap out the rear stock ext. cab shaft for a driveshaft out of RCSB, with a 700R4/4L60E, it fits right in without having to get a custom built driveshaft. Also using this method, you can use a stock 1/2 ton gas tank. All of the descibed method above works on 2WD automatic trucks with a 700R4/4L60E trans, I do not know about 4WD, obviously the driveshafts would have to be different, but the rest I am not sure. Good luck with your projects!

Sorry man I don't know about shortening a LWB frame, as far as what I did, I stretched an ext. cab frame. Take it easy
