Re: interior / underhood getting redone
HA..... progress......

it's been a rough few months weather wise. seems like everyday i have off to work on it, it rains. i got lucky this past 10 days. i had vacation time that i had to take, so i got a few good days in. this is where it stands now. not too much, but a little got done.

before:

after:

mounted the msd like i saw another member on fsc do. no idea who it is tho.

the passenger side cleanup is almost done. this is not "the final product" just enough to get by till i paint. you can see the the MSD still needs to be wired in. and the firewall wiress will be straight once i get my clamps in the mail. you can see the heavy duty conduit i have to cover it all up, coming down from the power block area into the pass side firewall.

the trailer fender that i've been wanting for years are done.
i used oil based paint on them and the inner fender skin. hopefully it will hold up until i sand it off someday. again, the bodywork i rough. thats not how it will look when it gets to paint someday

i am also re-running all my battery leads , both positive and negative. i don't have it exactly figured out yet, but for the most part they will be in those spots. OMFG that wire is expensive. 65.00 for 16 feet. probably because i got it at tractor supply co. anyhoo, i used marine terminals on purpose, they hold nice and tight, and the wire won;t work it's way out like the old setup i had. it never looked neat, and the wire would corrode. i till have to heatshrink the ends of them, but the sstuff i bought was 1 size too small so it will have to wait.

i have more to do before thats finished. waiting on insulated clamps from summit to come in.

i also ordered a new duel 10" fan and aluminum shroud setup for my radiator. that will take care of the "finger chopper" that was on there. can't wait to get rid of this.

that's an old pic right there

still lot more underhood to get done, but that will have to wait for my new stuff to come in. i bought a new overflow tank as well, and it will go right next to the radiator on the pass side, as well as a new mount for the power steering stuff.

i bought some HID's last year that will be going in as soon as it drives no idea when that will be.

ummmm..... interior has made a lot of progress, although it doesn't look like it.

the pasenger side of the floor had the rust sanded down and primed. the drivers is not done yet. i reinstalle the new dash that has been cleaned inside and out. all the heater motors and what not have been repaired. the wiring has all been put back with the exception of a few things i have to wait for. i didn't paint it yet, because i want the paint to all match, and i want it to look right. also, i may do suede on the entire dash. still undecided.

you can see the duel layer of ssound deadning here

and here is where the LT1 computer is stuck. the glove compartment fit back in fine..... i think.... we will see :)

thats where she sits now. next week will hopefull finih up most of the big thing underhood. and the next week will be the seat mountss. it's getting cold and i have only 1 1/2 months left before snow. i'd like to hear it run before then :)

EDIT: my keyboard has been worn out by years of gaming, so certian keys do not function as they should. ssorry bout the typo's.

Re: interior / underhood getting redone
Its about time! lol jk Looking good.
How about mounting that MSD box inside the cab under the dash or something. Would clean up the firewall some more. And when you run all the wiring to the dist block on the firewall run them all in the big loom up from the bottom. When looking at mine the only wires you see are the battery cables (which will be moved to the rear) and that big main loom to the dist block. I tucked all the harness on the backside close to the engine and used a padded clamp to hold it to the back of the engine. Just an idea. Anyways, Keep it up. Its coming along good.

i'll be honest, i have no desire to stick anything else under the dash. it's pretty tight under there and i don't want to see it from inside the cab. however, i will be lowering the main harness that runs from the power block to the drivers side, and it will be nice and straight and enclosed in the new conduit. it should look good when it's done.
what did you do with the steam pipe from the rear of the heads? i'd like to get some cool flex hoses ,but my steam pipe feeds into the upper hose.
i was gonna ask you for some finished pics , it looks great! looking into the canton valve covers myself, how do you like them? ( i know you made the cutout, it would be cheaper for me to just buy them) the cheapo ones i got from JEGS .... well you can see what happens over a year or so of sitting. BS. i need to lower my alt back down and just get some that are made for the LT1.

god, tell me about it. the headers are trashed too. i never drive the thing, and look what it does. just sits and rusts. the POR-15, that was a joke too. i cleaned and prepped jsut like it told me to. i had to brush it on, and it looked OK for a year. now it looks like that. even on the block. what a waste of money valve covers and headers are on the list when i can save up . my GF and i need to save for a house, we have to move in exactly 1 year. i need my own garage.

Alright. My covers are actually ebay ones that I notched out for hte alt. They dont make any this exact style for the LT1s so I had to do something different and didnt want the oil fill cap and pcv valve on the top. These come blank so you can put those anywhere you want. I cut out and put my pcv valve on the side right underneath the fuel rail cover.
As far as the steam pipe, I just pulled it from the TB and put a flex hose and T'd it into the overflow tube. I think it works fine. lol IF you decide to get the stainless hoses like mine MAKE SURE you get new clamps. Mine were junk and every one of them stripped out when tightened and the upper radiator hose blew off one day and caused a big mess!

Where is your PS reservior? It looks like it may be going under the battery tray? I need to do something with mine cause Im about to redo the inner fenders and smooth them out.

whoot, i came across these the other day and thought of you :)

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=4&pcid=110

now i don't have to buy a machine shop to get some dope valvecovers!

i will see if i can make it look nice with that idea for the steam pipe, thanks.

the power steering reservior will be mounted using a new bracket i have to make. it will be mounted next to the battery, level with the batt top, and the new overflow tank will sit between the firewall and the reservior. all on the passenger side of the radiator.
