LM7 in my '97
Well started alittle project and decided to document it here for your viewing pleasure, for now it will be mostly picture but I may come back later and add captions. Anyways on to the pics

Got the motor today and started the tear down. Removed the intake and harness I'll be shipping off the harness monday. The actual swap is planned for the second week in August.

Re: LM7 in my '97
before you put the intake back on put rtv silicone around the rear knock sensor so it does not fill with water. Just pop the rubber cap off, put rtv around it and pop it back in.
99', ECSB Z71, 5.3, 31" Cooper Discoverer A/Ts, K&N FIPK, and a little something here and there.

Plan on camming it and the heads will get alittle work before it goes back together other than that just bolt ons. The trans will get a shift kit and vette servo also.

Why would I get water in there? Never heard of this...

Are you swapping from a 4.3 V6 to a LM7 5.3? If so you have the makings for a nice end result. I worry though if you are swapping from the L31 350.

Why worry? I'll be going from 212,xxx miles to less than 50,xxx miles for under 2000$ Plus the extra horsepower and the extra milage.

The 5.3 will be hard pressed to get better mileage than the 350 Vortec in the real world. Even though you have more HP with the newer engine you have less torque in the 1,000-3,500 rpm range which is noticeable EVERY time you accelerate from a stop or at speed. Lower mileage engine is always good, but I have seen the L31 run 750,000+ miles. $2K isn't bad for a full swap.

Thats my thought also, I ran into a deal I could'nt refuse, also when this truck becomes a toy instead of my DD the 5.3 can very easily be swapped to a LS1 or LQ9 and be capeable of things the 350 never even dreamed of...

True it can be swapped to a larger engine, but the 350 is HIGHLY capable as well. I would put a conventional small block against an equal displacement, equal built LSx any day of the week.

I know you are a big fan of the convential small block but I like the sex appeal of the newer lsx engines, I guess cause I am a young wipper snapper or something like that. Plus its just the fact of being different, every one has a convential SB in these trucks but few have the lsx motors. JMHO

I guess I got off on the wrong foot. I am a fan of the older engines. I just wanted to make you aware Stock for Stock I don't think you will experience a drastic change of any kind.

Nice job on the valve covers BTW. Mine are a very similar color.

Dumbest thing I've read all week, right there.
