Bare Naked Frame
Hey,

This is my first post. I have a 1/2 ton short wide stripped to the frame. I will be sand blasting and repainting pretty soon and would like to know if anyone has a suggestion for paint.

I would like a semi gloss durable finish that is easy to apply.

Thanks
B Black

Re: Bare Naked Frame
Is the PPG a frame coating or is it just gloss black with a primer

Re: Bare Naked Frame
2 part epoxy primer then gloss black paint, but this chit is thick, had to grind some areas down to add weld on parts and it did not come off easy or fast

Re: Bare Naked Frame
I used a rattle can product that worked really well. After sandblasting and preping the frame, the rustolium covered really well.

por15 is a very tempermental product. if not applied correctly to the T it will chip off very easily. i applied mine in bare metal after a wax and grease remover and it still chipped off

Re: Bare Naked Frame
i hate por15. i spent a mint on their products, prepped exactly to their specs, and my engine bay is peeling all over the place. i will never purchase their coatings again. on the flip side, i used cheap arse rustolium spraybombs on my rear frame, and it is sticking better to a clean frame then the POR. obviously it should be touched up after time, but it is easy to go get a can of the oil based rustolium and do your touch ups that way, then to restrip and reapply the POR. just my 2 cents. at ome point i may try eastwoods chassis products and see if i have better luck. who know, it may be POR in a different can.

Re: Bare Naked Frame
I dont know if your planning on a show truck finish but Ive had some good results w/oil base Rustoleum from Home Depo.If you sand the bare metal and wipe it down,,when this stuff dries its hard to get off w/a cup brush. I recommend 2 or more coats. Its cheap and it seems to work well, and it looks great.Buy 1 gal. and the rest is all labor.

i found your problem. POR isnt meant to be applied to a completely clean surface. it needs some surface rust in order to adhere well. its moisture curing, so it needs the rust underneath to cure properly, without it, it will flake off.

i have a friend who deals in the stuff.

Re: Bare Naked Frame
I went to O'Reileys and bought a gallon of semigloss black implement paint. It goes on thick and adhears good. It was only like $30 and covered my entire frame in about 2 coats.

Yep...Tractor paint. That stuff is tough, same type as I used. You can reduce the gal. and spray it or just brush it on in light coats.

Yeah, I just used a 1.8 tip and sprayed it on in two medium coats. Came out great IMO. Next stuff I may use on another project is that ceramic chassis black from Eastwood Co. Supposed to be the stuff!
