Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
While you're at it, pull the front bumper, wire-wheel or sand the chrome to rough it up (I like those sandpaper multi-flap wheels that are good for up to 13,000 rpms, I spin them with my 10,000-rpm angle grinder), and paint that black as well. And a suggestion for keeping yerself busy before painting the brush guard - weld in a step in the bottom of it, so you can step on ot when working on the engine - I ain't got that on my Westin, and I cuss hardcore every time I have to do anything at the back of the engine!

Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
I added a power inverter that I mounted under the passenger seat, and painted the brush guard no time to do the bumper. I also just 3 stepped waxed her up yesterday, I'll post more pics when I get them uploaded.

Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
hope that exhaust manifold gasket didn't take to long for you. She has come a long way I just hope she continues to run ok I have a few issues or things that make me wonder with it. Like today for ****s and giggles I tried to see if I could spin the tires and when I floored it I almost killed the truck like I flooded it, you could smell the gas. I couldn't spin tires, it seems from the take off to be weak but once you get rolling it's pretty strong.

Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
I found out that the PO broke off a exhaust stud in the head. Unfortunately it is the back bolt under the maater cylinder. So I put a double gasket on it and hope it holds. If i ever have to pull the head off I will fix it right. For now it will have to hold.
Also had to put a power steering hose on the GF's s10. It was spraying up between the hood and fender. Fortunately I had another hose so it was an easy fix.
now if I could just figure out why the *&^%$# Jeep wont start I would be good.

Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
Well I updated the 12volt plugs and ashtray in my 95 to one out of a 98 and also changed out the cupholder mine was broke. It cost me 20 bucks for both parts at the local junk yard, not a bad buy.

Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
Ya know, I only got one 12V outlet in my truck, in the cab that is (2 in the engine bay), instead I hardwire all I plan on using fairly often, and for the temporary stuff like laptop and cell phone gets plugged I put in a 110V inverter, kinda nice not having to buy the special adapters and chargers for that stuff.

I also have a 110 inverter that I mounted under the passenger seat it has a 110v plug, 12v plug, and a usb plug. It was cheap and works great. I hardwired it straight to the battery.

Why do you have 12v outlets in your engine bay?

Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
Everyone on here recommends a TB spacer for the pre vortec motors which is what I have. I had that problem that I posted long before I put the spacer on. I just never tried to floor it from a stop to really see what would happen. Reason being it never did much when I floored it when rolling. I have killed the truck twice when mudding and I had it floored because I was close to getting it stuck.

For plugging in things like work lights and small air compressors. I also have an adapter that converts my trailer connector to a regular 12V power outlet, for the same reasons.

The only advantage I can see from a TB spacer is trying to make the intake runners longer, with the older OHV Fords (320, 351, and 460) that idea actually works pretty good but we put the spacers between the upper and lower manifolds, and said spacers have smooth bores - how a spacer that has grooved walls and creates extra turbulence benefits the airflow is beyond me...

Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
Heluva nice burb man. I love the OBS full size Tahoes and Suburbans. I'll have mine untill the day I die. To get it looking even nicer, crawl under there when it warms up on a free day and clean and paint up your frame and suspension. I did that to mine it look like it has 100,000 less miles on it. Also, get your carpet steam cleaned and order a set of Husky liners for that thing! That will make the interior look great. I'm loving the Husky liners in my truck. However, its your vehicle so dont listen to me, lol. Nice work!

longer intake runner? sure, i will absolutely buy that as a viable mod. but these 'vortex' spacers that claim to increase fuel mixture actually create puddling of fuel. the bike industry dealt with and disposed of this idea in the early 80's...and for the life of me, i cant figure out why the truck industy still buys into it. plus, why would you WANT to create non-linear air flow in an intake? that actually slows intake air!!!

Re: 95 suburban 4x4 build
The swap is simple dash is the same down there. All u have to do is take that panel down under the steering wheel, open the glove box and in the 4 coners of the ashtray assemble there are 4 black push in tabs. You pop them out with a knief or small flat head screwdriver. Pull the ashtray assembly out, unplug the 3 sockets and then reinstall the new one. Even the ashtray courtsey light fit the new ashtray like it was suppose to be that way factory.
