1984 K5 Resto/build
Decided I wanted to fix up the ole K5.

Guess I'll start with ripping the carpet out to bed line the floorboard.

As far as I got tonight:

Some nice rusty holes in the rear corners.
Rear was done Friday.
Pulled the front seats and carpet/insulation out Saturday.
No pictures of it yet.

Anyone have any experience with Rust Bullet? Thinking about covering the sections that the top covers with this ****.

Re: 1984 K5 Resto/build
Thing is completely stripped in the inside now.

Got all the holes in the cab area covered in bondo. Tomorrow I will sand them down, clean the floor good and bed line it (hopefully)

Then move on to the 2 rear rotted sections.

Re: 1984 K5 Resto/build
you're not covering the holes in the floor with bondo are you? once you do that, and then put the liner over it, it will just rot the metal out under the liner. those holes need to be cut out and patched in before you line it.

I ground all the rust off, coated the bare metal with rust bullet, and I'm bondoing over that.

Re: 1984 K5 Resto/build
yeah... that's not gonna work. bondo is a filler, not a metal patch. you need metal.

Re: 1984 K5 Resto/build
yea man i would not just use filler because that will not do trust me i done the same thing and i ended up taking the filler back off and taking a screw driver and poking the floor where it was not solid and it made holes so since your floor is mostly solid just take some sheet metal and weld it in and for your kick panels get new kick panels or you can go all new metal with the link below

True that. That glue is still on mine, along with some from under the drivers carpet by the pedals. I gave up and moved along to putting my corbeau seats in.

Re: 1984 K5 Resto/build
There wasn't much glue on the wheel wells under the insulation, a bit but not much.

Eventually I need to get some new springs all around.
Probably a RC 4" kit on some 33-35's

I also need to find me some vortec heads, and ditch the quadrajet.

doesnt matter if its on any rust or not. the way you just described it, there is a hole in the floor, and you put some rust stop paint on it, and are now filling the hole with bondo. wont work, as bondo is a cosmetic filler only, it wont hold anything structurally. if you're going to do it that way anyways, do yourself a favor. take some duct tape and cover the holes with that then spray the bedliner over it. either way, you're going to end up with a big hole under the liner, and it will rot everything else around it. might as well save yourself the time and effort of applying the bondo.
