Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
Well, If you're just joining us, I'm about 2 1/2 months into building my own custom SS454! The exterior of the truck will be relatively stock, other than a slight lowering and of course 6" of happy poking out of the hood!! That's right, were talking a 6-71 "assisted" 454BBC that will look like it's running a 11.00 when it's standing still, and sound like it too (the legendary roots whine, it's like a car-guy's porn!).
Truck:
1991 C1500 Half-ton Chevy. Reg cab/ Short box combo with a stock 4.3L Slant 6. Stock TH700-R4 tranny and a disguisting stock 19 second quarter mile!
Engine:
Built Gen IV 454 bored .040 over with stock stroke and deck. Forged pistons on refurbished rods and a shot-peened cast crank. Havn't picked out the bumpstick yet (not that far) or heads. Topped off with a new Weiand 6-71 Roots Blower, around 6 psi boost.
Other mods:
-Custom backhalf with Comp. Engineering 4-link suspension.
-DJM Calmax arms in front.
-Custom fabbed box to accomodate fuel cell and 4-link clearance.
-Custom firewall along with floor pans.
-Smoothed fenders (engine side will be replaced with flat sheet).
-GM-12 bolt rear end.
-Custom Fiberglass dash.
-Custom Fiberglass door panels.
-Custom Fiberglass center console.
-Custom 3" T316 Stainless exhaust with cutouts leading to glasspacks and turndowns (one path is quite and one is window shaking loud!).
-Fiberglass box lid.
-Fiberglass hood.
-B&M Pro-ratchet shifter.
-Custom Painless Performance wiring harness.
There will be other stuff as it comes up, but those are the major mods. Goal: to anihilate the obnoxious "Tuners" down the road from me!
Advise is always welcome, and appreciated. If you like the project LET US HEAR IT!! If you don't like it, keep it to yourself. Feel free to spread your pics of your 454's. This thread is all about the Badass Bowties of the world!

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
I certainly hope you are not putting back a stock 700r4 behind that (drool) beast. It will last maybe 1 pass. LOL. At least a Raptor upgrade, probably a stage 4 build will be necessary for that beast.

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
This build is going to be bad ass, my favorite truck ever is the 454SS so a replica, or sorta replica would be pretty sweet. Chris has got the best lookin one I have ever seen, with the Rockstars of course, but he want's to get rid of them minus well get rid of the whole truck to my garage. Will be following, good luck!

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
Good! I love that look on your truck. It's awesome, suits it well. Just make more power some how instead of gettin lighter wheels! It's a one of a kind for sure and is bad ass. Yeah, maybe a little bit lower might make it look perfect, even though it already does

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
I have always loved big blocks and i've had several. This is my most recent.
468. 10:1 wisecos. eagle H-beams. gm crank. .600 comp hyd cam. strip dominator intake. mighty demon 825. gm big ovals w/ 2.19, 1.88 stainless valves
with a th350, 3200 convertor, and 4.10's it went 11.84 in a 3500lb. 87 swb.
It ain't blown, but its a BBC.

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
Ya I here ya. It seems like it's sooooooo much easier to build a mean street truck with a big block than a mouse motor. They run longer too! What valve covers u got BTW?

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
Not sure on the brand, I bought them off ebay, they were polished. I had them and the intake powdercoated black. I'm not into chrome too much.

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
So why are you putting a 6-71 on with a cast crank and refurbed stock rods? I'd upgrade the rotating assembly for a N/A application before I put a 6-71 on a practically stock bottom end. I realize you're only gunna run 6 psi, but still.

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
The reason is numbers. I can build a "Stock 454" with a blower running low boost for around $3600. If I were to build a N/A 454 to the same output as a blower block, it would be well over $4500 and there's a good chance I couldn't run pump gas. I'm not the biggest fan of superchargers because of their expense, but it adds 200 horse on a BBC for $2600. That's pretty good!

Besides, the engine is a long ways out. Plans could still change. Right now I'm on the chassis portion. I'll post pics of the chassis on the webpage tomorrow. The box and cab are already stripped, and everything I could pull came off.

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
Well got a little bit more done today. Pulled the right front suspension and steering box out. Only got the left side to do but then realized it was too close to da wall. Figured I better stop for now. Single Stall Garages BLOW!!!
BTW, new pics on the website.

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
What are the benefits to running coil-overs in the front. Are stock progressive springs with adjustable shocks good enough?

Re: Bad**s Blown Bowtie!
Seems pretty badass to me. However, your truck didn't have a slant 6 in it. the 225 Slant Six is a mopar motor thats been out of production for damn near 30 years.
