the long awaited build thread for my 93...
i thought i started a build thread here on FSC, but apparently i didnt. i stole my progress posts from the thread on GMFS. here they are...
3/4/2007
"it" being the transformation of my plain jane 93 C2500. actually started 1-23-07, but this thread was started on a site that i no longer have access to.
a little cosmetic makeover first (thanks to ice and 3 tons of K20 )
i pulled it in the garage, and pulled this out of the bed.
6 bolts and a spring later, i backed this out...
next up, the Silverado grille and clear composite headlights. the swap will entail new bumper brackets and bumper fillers to accomodate the 94+ grille.
SFA is just around the corner...
got my hood and fillers back on Friday from the painter, immediately bolted the hood on. matching paint makes a HUGE difference!
i decided about 1:00 that i was going to swap the grille, headlights, headlight harness, and the bumper brackets and fillers. here's the finished product.
3/29/2007
its like Christmas...
...only better
7/1/07
havent updated in a while. things are progressing rather slowly as i've got a lot of other things going on now. i've got all of the 2wd suspension removed, and 3 of 4 springs hung. i bought a parts truck last week, so the truck is going to be a bit beefier than i originally planned.
i bought a 94 K3500 crewcab dually from my sister's ex-boyfriend after he wrecked it, and his insurance company totaled it. it's got a great running 454/80E/Borg Warner 4401 setup in it, along with power windows and locks, and some other assorted goodies. the interior in it is nearly perfect, which will be used to upgrade the interior of my 93 Cheyenne, and replace some of the abused parts in my 92 Silverado.
here's pics of the parts truck...

my girlfriend/garage bunny making a really weird face, i dunno what that's all about.
here's the reason its a parts truck...
the wheelbase is about 3" shorter on the passenger side.
7/11/2007
got a little bored today, and have to make some room in the garage for the 454 and associated parts... so i made a little progress...
axle under, and on jackstands, full weight of the truck on springs.
profile from inside the garage. this thing is gonna be HUGE!

well guys, life has hit me. i've got a busy schedule, a pregnant girlfriend, a need to buy a house, and a pile of parts to build a badass truck... so whats a guy to do?
but of course, BOLT THE PILE OF PARTS TOGETHER! here it is sitting completely unassisted, the new dash and tcase shifter are in, doors are completely converted to full power. motor/trans/case may be going in tomorrow, providing i can get some help. i've got 2 buddies who are out of work who love to play trucks, so something tells me that's not gonna be a problem.

Nice
Wasn't a bad looking truck to start with, now its just sick looking
Is the 454/80E setup going in it as well? I see no engine in the one pic. Any pics of how it sits right now?

Re: the long awaited build thread for my 93...
hold on guys, i'm not done updating!!!
after the last update, i decided to sell off some of the more valuable parts that i had to pay off some debt before our daughter was born. i sold the big block out of the 94, the serpentine setup off of it, the BW4401, and the Dana 60, and the 5.13s and associated parts for it.
decided to go with a 10 bolt front, since my 77 and 80 already have 28 spline 10 bolts up front, so that's less spare parts to have laying around. i know i'm going to break it since i kept the 37s.

Re: the long awaited build thread for my 93...
after selling the big block, i wrecked my daily driver (92) and came across a good deal on a new truck that needed the 60E that i originally had built for the big truck, i found out when attempting to install headers that i had exhaust manifold bolts broken off in the head. rather than spend money on a 240K engine, i decided to swap the lower milage engine that came out of the 93, leaving it engineless again. planned on building a 383, and actually started prepping the block for the build. fortunately, i didnt spend any money on it. a friend of mine decided it was time to get rid of his 90 R3500 dually. i wanted a BBC, and i wanted a wiring harness from an OOBS truck with TBI for a retrofit into my 80, so its purchase was a no brainer. i will be pulling the engine out for the 93, and pulling the dash and harness and the recently rebuilt TH400 for the 80.
on Tuesday, my buddy Tiny and I pulled the front axle out, and loaded it in the truck, along with the bare 14FF housing i have for the truck, and took them to have the gears installed ($300 for regearing and the knuckle i need, couldnt pass it up)
both front and rear axles have 5.13 Yukons in them, with a Detroit in the rear. bought all new seals, bearings, and ball joints, along with a new set of Warn Premiums for the front axle. i already had the bearings and seals for the rear axle, as well as disc brake brackets for the rear, and new rotors for all 4 corners.
10 bolt ready to go in.
springs ready for 10 bolt.
reinstallation.
14FF with 5.13s and Detroit installed, awaiting reassembly.

Re: the long awaited build thread for my 93...
for anyone wondering about the cleanliness of the parts, the plan is to put the truck together, drive it for a while, and work the bugs out of everything, then take it down to nothing again, and make it pretty.

A 10 bolt with 5.13's , I hope you have spare gears and spare axle shafts. Nice looking truck though.

I wouldn't be too worried about that, GD knows his stuff very well so methinks he's very unlikely to push the truck its limit, unless he's looking for an excuse to upgrade to a D60 front that is

Re: the long awaited build thread for my 93...
stock shafts, and i know its living on borrowed time. with the 5.13s, all new bearings and seals, balljoints, rotors, and brand new lockouts i'm still in it for less than $500. a 60 is in the plan, but no job means not enough money for a 60. it will come in time. im thinking maybe even something crazy like a high pinion passenger side drop 60. can you say CUSTOM? of course, i'll set it up to run stock shafts so that if i happen to break one of those, i wont have problems with finding a replacement.

this idea has been rattling around in my head for years. one day i am going to cut up two perfect 60f's just to have my high pinion p-drop front axle. just not sure if it needs to go in the 72 chev, or the army truck. both of them have 60s up front now, so i just need to stumble on that 78-79 ford front deal. the army truck would have a sweet front driveline angle with HP. it would be almost flat.
truck is looking good. need some action pics.
you still have a spare 454 TBI set up you need rid of?
