Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

yesterday was mainly about the Dmax, since we wouldnt drive it and park it anywhere with the window down. Too nice of a truck, plus the nav unit etc. That's fixed now though. Bad regulator overloaded the pass. side breaker and blew it, causing our inability to work the windows

I did manage to get the bed ready for it's second primer coat, just need to tape off the rhino liner. Also got the antennae hole fill pate ready too

Counted and measured the holes we're filling in the bumpers, got some replacement metal, torched it all out, ground them down, and now I'm cutting them into 1.5"x.75" rectangles

church tonight, so not a ton will get done. I will have all the squares ready to go on the bumpers though, and maybe the cab back rust spot cut out, god willing I can get by the bed mount. Maybe I can tape off the bed and get dad to spray that second primer coat

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

Yesterday being church/volunteer night, not a ton was done. I did manage to get the filler plates cut and ground to the right size. Then I got the cab corner reinforcements cut and mapped out, allowing for the drainage areas.

Finished rocker

In the interests in keeping things moving, and utilizing my enormous amounts of free time, I decided to relieve the days of when I was 12 and taught to weld

reason 2 it pays to be good with a grinder-my shotty welding - but I havent welded since that first lesson, and that metal was very thin.

Tomorrow I have a going away party for an old friend going back to OK, so not sure alot will get done. But hopefully the cab corned will be hung today, along with the next primer coat and sanding of it

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

Big Update

Right as we got everything done to my bumpers and were about to begin welding in the plates, come to find out theres a 95 WT about 20 miles from where I live, and it'll cost us the same amount as a decent tailgate would. Spent saturday morning picking it up. It's got a knock in the V6, but we're not going to worry about it, atleast not yet, since it's a parts truck

I robbed a prime tailgate (had alot of deep paint gouges from loaded stuff, but it'll be rhino lined over the inside anyways)

And got 2 bumpers. They had a few sizeable dents in them, but the fiberglass to fix that is still less than all the holes we had to cover, and alot less work. There's only 6 holes, all in the front bumper. We used the torch to heat uit up, then punded them out ALOT to reduce filler

Biggest dent in the front bumper

Blasted waiting for primer

Rear bumper, going to be blasted after work

biggest worked dent

In other news, the driver's side cab corner and rocker are fully fiberglassed with a primer coat, hopefully the finish bondo will be roughed in tonight. Also, I got the cab rear all patched up myself.

Also, since I finally have a good gate, I got out the old Belltech relocating kit that's been in the back since before my time, and installed it myself

So, going to work on more blasting, filling, tailgate handle plate, and bumpers today

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

ha man if you only knew lol. I'm trying to make a huge push to get it done.

-I got the tailgate 90% wetsanded on the outside, and about 35% DA'd on the inside.
-Did alot of cleaning to the garage, just general picking up.
-The cab corner is all set, just needs a last thick primer coat and some finish sanding.
-Blasted the rear bumper, and had to do some grinding to the front in areas where the chrome bubbled from blasting.
-BED IS OFFICIALLY READY FOR PAINT!

I'll edit some pics in here when I can get them up later.

-We'll get the primer on the bumpers and corner/rocker later today
-Hopefully finish the wetsanding on the tailgate and most of the inside too.
-Maybe weld in the tailgate plate, or start filling the bumper holes

I still need some good front doors, mine are ruster underneath, and to go get my 442 hood in ohio

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

well, the compressor's been getting wayyy too hot lately, and we dont know why, so it way down last night to clean the air intake. Also, a guy told us he had perfect doors, only we got there to find them rusted at the bottom like every other FSC.

-I got my tails fully sanded and ready for tint
-Tailgate's wetsanded on the outside
-80% DA'd on the inside
-We decided to use donor doors from our parts truck
-Hopefully the primer has been laid while I was here at work
-I ordered my clear corners earlier today
-Callign around for best rhino lining prices for my brush guard, tailgate and rockers.

No need for pics really, just sanding lol

-Maybe sand laid primer later
-Get donor doors sanded and cut for patching
-Finish DA
-Church night, so not alot as usual

Nice work! I'm hoping to rip into my dad's '93 K2500 this Christmas break, we're pulling the box for some frame work. Looks like you're real serious about this truck, nice to see someone who isn't all for beating the snot out of one of the most durable line of trucks ever made.

This is an awsome build. I loved watching your dads and it seems like your hanging right beside him. Keep up the good work

How durable do you find it? As tough as some brand name products?

ya know, I was thinking when I realized my pads and initial bumpers wouldnt work without the trim- which I didnt want- to paint them and then have rhino liner for pads

thanks, I like it when people move from that build to ours, since that was my first real one and that the two trucks are very much so related in the ideas and likes and dislikes, etc, that shape them. Thanks alot man

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

yeah, I've looked at that stuff and it gets great reviews. The only thing is, I'm a little perfectionist (I get it from both my parents, but the extreme matching thing from my mom), and my bed already has rhino in it, and although very few would ever notice, I couldnt stand knowing its not the same

weird, I know lol

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

Well our regulator crapped out on us, and it'll take most of the night tonight to replace, and has left me stranded without work.

Only stuff I can do with what's outside now is
-DA-no compressor
-Wetsand donor door-has adhesive that wont come off in the rain

But our paint guy says we should have to paint at the end of the week. My hopes are we can get the tailsate ready and grill ready, then have those in a paint session with my bed and tails asap. that would give me alot more stuff to sand, and be a milestone.

Then I could get my billet grill in, my corners in, etc. Spend some time getting the front ready. Then, with the gate ready, I could get it and my brush guard rhino lined and have that done, set the guards out of the way worry free, and have the bed complete.

Hopefully by that point in time more work will have been generated.

But, I cant get the front clip out of the attic with the harley in the way, which I cant move outside due to rain, or anywhere else inside due to the donor truck.

I have been working on getting that parted out though

http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...truck-out.html

Just thought I'd kinda brainstorm. We did get that primer laid though

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

Thanks. I got my donor drivers door all rust fixed except for the lower few inches that we need a panel for. Also, the drivers side rockers and cab corner are really close to being done I believe. Niece and nephews cam over today, so no work done really.

Later I should have that panel and weld it in, then most likely starting on the other door. Really hoping to have this done before the cruise/concert The weekend of the 11th. Just gonna try to hit it hard and see what I can do. Paint looks like it'll be the biggest holdup, we still havent gotten it yet

my mother's going to NY this wednesday, probably returning in a week or less, with my hood in the back of the yukon. I've also been collecting other parts, and trying to buy a billet grill off of another member on here.

All while trying to part out this truck and get it out of here. Parts anyone? lol

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

Well my clear corners came in the other day, and my hood is in ohio, so I'll have that sunday

Not much I can really do at this point, other than cut that other door all up, fix it, then weld in lower panels for them. About a day's work I'll try for on Saturday

But i have been working on something else. My gf's birthday is the fifth, and we've been dating almost a year. She's really into drawing and painting and artsy stuff, and the only art I have it metal

So I tool some old tube steel from the back, and I'm cleaning it up, and welding it together as her name, then painting it her favorite colors and making it a stand.

Wimpy I know, but it's atleast something I'm working on

Re: 94 ECSB Overhaul, first truck

good news! we got the paint yesterday, so we decided we want the bed and the shaved gate in paint sunday

spent last night moving everything out of the secondary bay that I could, sweeping it,testing 9/diagnosing and fixing 3 halogen work lights, dropping the chainfall, and everything else loose

Had to do the bedrail where it beets the rhino because that hadn't been sanded, got that 70% this morning. Plans were to have that sanded, the inner/rhino masked off, and the garage final cleaned today

Then mask off a temp wall with painters plastic, do a final block sanding of the bed to break the skin, and paint my gate/tails/bed sunday

Well since my dad is solely handling the gate and glassing/bondo'ing it, he was at home working right after I left for work, and the propane torch fell from the cabinet and hit a cup of lacquer thinner from cleaning the spray guns last night, and it send lacquer thinner into both eyes

He was able to get to the hose and do as best a rinse he could, then go to the hospital. It's a chemical burn, they said he's lucky he rinsed when he did, or things would have been MUCH much worse. He can't hardly see infront of him, only a range 10-15 feet ahead.

So this'll set work back on the gate, but I'll keep trying to tie up my ends except for the final blocking of the bed, because the gate may not be ready in tie, and i'd rather not have to do it twice
