Front and rear will also get "other than stock" diff covers after the break-in 500 miles. Still tryin to decide what.

Re: 2 SASes 1 garage... Summer 2009
Its looking great. Thats what i thought just had to ask tho.The black and red is just a killer combo, I kept the Tie rod and drag link black, but i'm thinking of painting it all red now!

Re: 2 SASes 1 garage... Summer 2009
Some more progress this afternoon:
After few hours with the grinder and wire brush, the perches and shock mounts were gone along with all of the old paint and rust.
Just need to press 8 more bolts and the rotors are on. I have to pull the axles from the 14SF to get my mounting brackets off to put on the FF. I'm running out of things to do before I have to spend some more $... rebuild kit, 5.38s, and detroit.

Re: 2 SASes 1 garage... Summer 2009
P.S. The tailgate is fixed again. The thing that sucks is that the new cables are about a 1/2" shorter than the old ones, so the tailgate is not completely flat. Next time, the tailgate is coming off before unloading an axle by myself.

Re: 2 SASes 1 garage... Summer 2009
Sorry so late, the wife wanted a new front door. After a shopping trip to Home Depot, I had another little project on my hands.
Well, here is the progress from today:
The old 8 lug 14BSF is now a 6 lug. I had my disc brake brackets on it and had to rob them back. While I was at it, I swapped the shafts.
Then, I removed the ring gear and pulled the spiders out of the carrier.
If only I had remembered to do what I said I was going to do on my axle after working on the dana 60... I was going to break the pinion nut loose while its still in the vehicle with the tires on the ground. Thats my next battle, then I need to spend some $ again.

Re: 2 SASes 1 garage... Summer 2009
Final stance to be similar to:
But 39.5x18x16.5 Boggers or 40-42 Iroks, SXs, Pitbull Rockers, M16s, not forsure yet.

May I ask a dumb question... What does SAS stand for?
Good luck with the project.

Re: 2 SASes 1 garage... Summer 2009
Agreed...
Didn't get a whole lot done today, but here is a few picts.
Pulled the pinion out and disassemblied it. I managed to break the pinion nut loose by putting the yoke in a big vise and putting a pipe on the end of my 3/4" drive rachet. Anyone need a set of 3.21s for a 14FF? I didn't know they put that tall of a gear in these. Came out of a 77 K20 2wd suburban with a 454.
Also, pulled the old bearings off the old carrier. Who needs a fancy bearing puller when one has a big gear puller, vise grips, and channel locks.

Re: 2 SASes 1 garage... Summer 2009
Things might be alittle slow during the week. Getting up at 5am and getting home at 7pm doesn't leave a lot time for the truck during the week. But here's what I picked up after work:
85 K20 front calipers and pads. Just test fitting for now. I still have to paint them red to match the fronts.

Re: 2 SASes 1 garage... Summer 2009
Going to try to put my front hangers on this week. I was going to weld up all of my own, but after looking around and calling a few places, I ended up buying an ORD kit. I know all of the horror stories with the ORD kit, but I got their last old kit before they started making the 1 piece crossmember for the NBS for over 60% off. I am planning on doing some fab/mods to the kit anyways, so for a complete kit shipped for about $300, I figured I was well on my way. I am going to bolt the front hangers on, then tack weld my crossmember pieces to it before taking it off to fully weld it on the bench. I am starting to get antzy about the lift, but being on a budget is hard. I don't want to make more work by removing my lift and returning it back to stock to sell the lift to get more money for the remaining parts.
After I start taking it apart, (I will be listing all of this in the 4 sale section)
I will have:
front diff w/ 4.56 gears
ProComp 6" knuckle kit
1/2 ton to 3/4 ton cv adapters and cvs out of an 04 duramax
4.56 gears for the NBS 10 bolt rear
If I knew I could sell my wheels and tires quickly, I would already have a set of 39.5/18/16.5 boggers on 16.5x14 Bart wheels that are for sale locally.
Also have:
4.10s for a 14SF
3.54s for a HP dana 60
3.21s for a 14FF
Spare 8 lug 14SF shafts
79-85 caddy calipers (bought them and decided differently)
and depending on transfer case situations between Mike and I, I will have either a NP241 or NP261. Also, depends on my final stance, a 3" BL.

Lookin good. Are you going to turn up the front end so your pinion angle is better?
