Re: Slow but productive!! 1988 W/T stepside project
Would you suggest a used motor?
Those are the kind of numbers I'm looking for out of an N/A motor to.
All though I'd be happy with 500 to the wheels.
Heres another question for you.
If I considered to keep my FI system would it take much to adapt my FI to a 454s set up?
Thanks again, I appreciate all the info.
Oh, I have Belltech 3" coils no 2" ones.

Re: Slow but productive!! 1988 W/T stepside project
you could get a descent motor for cheap.. make sure you get oval port heads . good for n/a motors.
if you got tbi then you will need a 454 throttle body, intake, an computer.. and will spend too much cash trying to support 500+ hp with a tbi setup. carb or different efi setup needed

Re: Slow but productive!! 1988 W/T stepside project
You dont need a 454 tbi intake, the 88 to 95 bigblocks had a cast 4bbl intake with a tbi adapter that coolent runs thru you can find one at a boneyard

Re: Slow but productive!! 1988 W/T stepside project
well its started...
Bed is gone and frame is filthy..
i am gonna keep my factory gas tank for now.
I got my DJM flip from Stylin, some how ended up with a set of good Shaim 3"spindles.
IAs far as springs go, well i am gonna cut 1 and half turns off a factory coil. not sure if i am gonna use 1/2 ton or 1 ton springs . this is just temp so i can see iwhat size drop springs i want. I am thinkin 3" to 4" drop springs is what i am after.
I am also gonna use 2" shackles outback.. goin for like a 7/10 drop. crazy stupid right..
i fogot i have Belltech8006 nitro shocks for the front coming to me soon
tomorrow i am gonna pull the donor rearend and grab some 3/4 ton leaf spring so dont have to fool with takin the 1 ton spring pack apart....
my camera is dead so i gotta get someone to take pics for me..

What are your plans for the rear suspension?

Re: Slow but productive!! 1988 W/T stepside project
1ton leaf spring packs (springs come with rear end out of donor truck) and DJM flip kit w/2"drop shackles out back.. wanted 4 link but it can wait... not planning on bagging it ever..
although i am concerned about how stiff the ride will be using 1ton leaf springs on a reg cab short bed.. i also think its going to effect my traction..
I might just take out a leaf while got the springs apart.. maybe that will help???

Re: Slow but productive!! 1988 W/T stepside project
Gatcha, thats going to look slick when its done.
Thats going to be a stiff ride. I dont think you'd get any wheel hop with that set up. If you dont want a stiff ride, yeah take a leaf out.

Re: Slow but productive!! 1988 W/T stepside project
I have decided to paint my truck while doing this Dually conversion..
Goin oem style 2 tone... Definetly goin plain old GM gloss black on top and bottom.
Haven't decided on the middle color yet! ITS between 3 colors, Bahama blue metallic or pearl , flourescent green metallic or pearl , and Tangelo Pearl Orange.....
I am also considering doing one of those 3 colors with no metallic or pearl
I just dont know.. For sure I am gonna get some things done and updated on this build over the next few days.
I have already started sanding the dents in the cab and doors. Even started filling in the dent on the back of the cab.

Re: Slow but productive!! 1988 W/T stepside project
Alot of potential there... Cant wait to see it finished.
So r u doing anything else to it performance wise to make up for the power loss of usin that heavy duty rear??
They are all sweet colors rather metallic or pearl ... Go blue since you got bluE interior .What all do you plan on doing to the body? Shaving anything? What did you decide on wheels?
Ok i will stop with the 20 questions . Keep it updated .

This winter I AM pulling the motor and putting in a stroker kit along with a blower.. Hopfully achieving 850+HP..
As far as the body work I am only shaving antenna. The stake pockets and tail lights are already shaved on the donor bed.. the tail light fillers are in need of serious repair and the rear bottom corners of the bed need repair..
I thought about shaving the top cab seams only but i think they will crack?? Any advice or personal experience with shaving the top cab seams is greatly appreciated .
Well heading off to get er done..Pics soon to come
