Kirk's truck part 2........budget SAS
About damn time, right?
My last build thread is so cluttered up with 6" lift install and other crap, I figured this would get lost in there, so I started a new build thread. This will keep me motivated to keep working on it too. But, this will probably be a pretty slow build, because I'm doing this on a budget, I'm gonna take my time to try and find the best deals on parts. Also, I'm going to try to do it spending no more than $1000 out of pocket (not including new tires). Any other money I need I should be able to make off selling what parts are still good on my truck that will come off for the SAS (like the lift kit, body lift, etc).
Here's what I want to end up with, basically a NBS version of 88GMCTruck's 88.
It will have 6-7" lift, my Sky brackets will give me the 6" using stock 73-87 K10/K20 front springs, I may add an EZ Inch too. It will have a 78-79 Ford HP Dana 44, converted to 6 lug using Chevy Dana 44 or 10 bolt parts and crossover steering, 5.13 gears, and open diff. The rear will stay like it is until it breaks, 10 bolt with open diff and 5.13's. And I'm gonna run 36x13.5 Irok Radials on 15x10 steel wheels. For now, I will also be keeping the 4.3, 5 speed, and NV261 in it. I don't have enough power to easily kill the tranny or transfer case, but with the 5.13's it will still move around good. I think that's about it, if I think of anything else I'll be doing I'll add it in. And I'll keep up with total cost along the way.
Here's what I'm starting with, a 2001 Silverado 1500 RCSB 4x4 W/T. Right now it's got a 6" Rough Country lift, 3" body lift, 5.13's, 16x8 wheels, and 39.5x13.5 Irok Radials.
Total $$$ invested in SAS so far (I'm keeping this updated):
$250 for Sky brackets
$0 for 15x10 wheels
$0 for 10 bolt front axle
$0 for front springs
$25 for miscellaneous supplies (welding supplies, paint, etc)

Yeah man, I'll let you know if I need any help with it. And I'll let ya know when I pull the lift off, if you're still interested then. It's not coming off though until I have enough parts to hang an axle under it.

I had a lot of things for a SAS at one point, but between things being stolen out of the barn, and me selling things to pay bills when things got really slow at work, all I have left are the brackets. So starting from scratch, and keeping things locked up.

I just redid and redesigned most of my suspension, well pretty much everything. So technically I re-SFA my already SAS IFS Silverado.

Re: Kirk's truck part 2........budget SAS
I know it's not much, but here's pics of what I've got for it. Sky brackets and 15x10 steelies (with 33x12.5 tires). I'm going to sandblast the wheels and paint them black, but they're not in too bad of shape for how old they are and what they've been through.

6.0 eventually, but no way in hell it's getting an auto tranny For now, just the SAS, then I'll be happy with it for a while.

I could, but I want a wider wheel. And tires for 15's are cheaper and more plentiful.
I'll admit though, the steelies aren't the best looking wheels, but once I'm done with them, they'll look a lot better. Or, if I can do it within my budget, I'll get some new wheels, but new wheels arent my biggest priority right now.
