Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

Kev, that's my '94 3500HD, it's on its way to being a tow truck. My build thread for it is here in this forum, started out as a $300 pile-o-crap parts truck and built it out of junk.

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

turned out nice though. im sure u could build like 10 of those with all the obs trucks u got layin around lol. the reason why I asked though is because all the obs tow trucks around here have that same dropped bumper look urs has. like it has a body lift or something..

Thanks...I wish I could build 10 of those from my parts but I only have one 3500HD parts truck and I think a buddy of mine wants it!

That dropped bumper look is actually a raised cab ;) not really a body lift, it's that the whole frame/chassis has nothing in common with the lighter trucks, not even a 1 ton. It's basically a shortened motor home frame. Solid front axle with leaf springs, monster rotors and brakes, Dana 80 rear with disc brakes, Two stacks of five 3" wide leafs on each side (one stack of five leafs just as an overload pack), etc. everything way overbuilt to achieve a 15,000 GVWR vs. the 10,000-11,000 GVWR of a one ton. Anyway not trying to threadjack your Suburban project!

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

lol, well theres not much progress so we might as well chit chat. im having hell with this rear end...holes not big enough, then i get them big enough for the bag bolts and fitting...now the left bolt is too far and against the frame and i cant even even a damn socket in there to tighten it. but i think i would rather sit there and slooooooooooowly tighten it with the open side rather than move it over and drill new holes. its been 2 weeks after work tryin to get the holes. if i had a plasma cutter.....30 min and game over lol

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

well i ended up just taking the bag off and clocking it so the bolts face front to bag rather than side to side. finished up that side but i think my bolts are still too long, so im gonna swap the 1 1/2" bolts for 1 1/4" bolts and that should be good. this is what my frame looked like after all the holes lol
[IMG][/IMG]
first time before i clocked the bag
[IMG][/IMG]
after clocking the bag...
[IMG][/IMG]

started the driver side yesterday, i got it all apart and got the bag bolts drilled. made this little template this time to make sure i got the holes right the first time lol
[IMG][/IMG]

i just have to drill the hole for the fitting and i can bolt it all back together

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

lol, tell me about it..i hate doing things twice. i did the driver side today and 1 of my bolt holes is just off, maybe like 1/8 of an inch. so tomorrow hopefully i can finish it up and get the wheel back on and let her down! on this side, took just 20 min with my new step drill bit. other side took me close to 2 weeks lol. man if i would have dished out the 50 bucks for the bit then, it would have saved me a lot of a headache. i nearly broke my wrist and my pinky finger messing around with the wrong stuff. lol

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

sawweett.... Ill check your progress bro.... I hate it when my page is 3 pages back after a good couple of updates..!!

I just Found my new Desktop background......

LoL the flat tire aired out brings the frame closer to the ground... J/k but how close is the frame to layed out...

Looks good so far bro... Just funny to see something in that shape airing up/down... Like if the farm truck in the back 40 started "Gettin Shifty" on ya when you are Drinking the Devils sauce...

and what new background is that? :)

the flat tire does help, lol. i still have a ways to go, i cant really get down there to check, there is not much room with that damn tire being flat. the front still has about 6 inches more to go, im guessing. dont think it will lay frame but will be close. im still thinking on what to do for the rear...my original plan was bags in place of coil, 2" drop blocks, and step notch for the axle clearance. but now im thinking of doing a rear 3" "Z", with the same setup. that will buy me another 3" without changing up the setup. i would just need to get triple convulated (sp?) bags to make up for the drop. i guess well see i just need to find someone to do this for me lol
