Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

well, i got this thing back in march of this year. 1967 1/2 ton 3 door Chevy Suburban, non running, for $600 bucks.

The day i got it..

I started on replacing some rust issues and trying my hand at body work (first time). I started off with with replacing the lower driver side rear quarter. The new piece didnt come with the body lines in the wheel arch, which is gay, so im gonna have to go back and make some.

Before

All cut out

After

it still needs some more grinding, and body work. im looking for a used wheel arch so i can finish it up..so i moved on to something else..

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

next up was the "4th door" area, it had a huge ugly dent in which they did some old school body work on...

During..

Welded up..

Since then i laid down some filler and glass to straighen it out some, but it still needs work. ill be getting back to this as well..lol

So then i started on the front end, had a lot of surface rust but nothing major..

Started wire wheeling the whole thing, found some rust pitting so i wheeled em out, then sprayed some rust converter over then entire hood.

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

still adding pics, i went to mcdonalds to grab something to eat lol. plans are to keep the body somewhat original, no shaving! all black primer for now, then a black paintjob when its done. bags for the suspension, still need a few for more things but im gonna start putting them in within the next couple of weeks. front drop spindles, recessed cups. rear is just a monster notch and bags on trailing arms. i want to get a 350 motor, but i might rebuild the 305 (i think) thats in it. if i find out its a 350, then im rebuilding that one. interior is going to be stock so far, but may change my mind.

The grille, bumper, and fender was pretty straight forward. i did do some minor filler work to the driver fender. The passenger fender was a whole different ballgame. it had a huge dent in the front, so i found another fender that needed work (picked up a whole front end (for $75), so i cut the front off that fender, welded it to my existing fender, and made a pretty good original! also replaced the front lower cup, which i got from brother's, which did not fit right for ****. so that took some work too..

ran into a small rust issue, so that was fixed.

and the "final" result of the passenger fender. it still needs some touching up, more body work, but i wanted to hurry up and primer it lol. im gonna let the body man who paints the truck finalize it..

while i had the front end off, i went ahead and wire wheeled the core support, and sprayed it with some flat black krylon. also cleaned up the latch and grille support and sprayed that too.

and heres the entire front end in primer..

and just last week i sanded down the front 2 doors, and primered those up..

thats all i got for now, i did wire wheel the front pillers and the front of the drip rail and above the window, ill snap some pics tomorrow. im gonna start back on the 4th door area and try to get that smoothed up for primer...i do have some bag parts coming in this week so i might start on that...well see! what you guys think?

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

well I kinda lost motivation in my 98 burb. I sure wish it was a 2wd or I would have gone a lot farther with it. I still want to put some 20's on it and call it a day. I was gonna just bag that one but I figured I should just get a project since it would be easier since I don't have to drive it every day. when I paint the 67 ill prob do a quick wetsand, fix the little dings, and spray the 98 to match. I still have a white 02 tahoe I wanna put some 24's on but that's the family one and really don't wanna get my hands on that one lol

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

3 door suburbans are bad a$$. that thing is gonna be a head turner in black primer and if you did some chrome rims and chrome trim just my opinion.

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

ya, I agree. just the trim for these things are hella expensive! just the emblems that came with the truck are being replaced and that's it. as for the rims im leaning towards black 22's with maybe a chrome trim..I want a real sinister look to it.

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

I might start taking off the front suspension this weekend. i do have a question though. I'm needing 8.5" cups so i can recess them in my lca to give me an extra couple of inches of drop, so ill probably sell the suicide doors lower cups to get the bigger ones. anyone have a set laying around they dont need..or would sell super cheap? also, need someone in my area to cut out and weld em in for me. i will weld on the sheetmetal, but i dont trust my welding holding up my suspension lol

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

Here's a thought, just throwin' it out there - have you looked at what it would take to graft a driver's side door in? Grab a 3rd door from another parts truck and flip the works so that it's a driver's side door? OR...fill the 3rd door so it's a 2 door like the previous body style Suburbans?

Either would be pretty trick...the 4 door would be more work and more unique, but the 2 door would look badass.

My first truck was a '63 Suburban and I'd always loved the 2 door Suburbans. I rocked it in its multi-color paint and primer job for a while, then threw a '61 front clip on it and primered it black with a white roof. Later I got a '61 Suburban and a '66 panel.

Cool project!

Richard

Re: Project 67 Suburban - DRGNWGN

i have thought of the 4th door idea, but it is A LOT of work. check out this link from another site, that dude does some crazy sheetmetal work, waaaaaay more than i can handle lol. i kinda want to put a handle on the 4th door area and see if people grab it lol.

Awesome project man. But do you have any pictures of the other suburban with the 3/4 drop? Cause I have a95 4x4 burb on 22's and was wanting to get an idea of what it might look like

That is pretty slick. I can't say that I've seen too many of the old 'burbs like that.
