Re: Operation: Halfatruck (side project)
Even if it is 6x4 I'd still think I'd want brakes on all 6.

Re: Operation: Halfatruck (side project)
Looks like you got the same kinda lathe as we got at my shop
I have no experience with a lathe though, but that does give me a few ideas for when i get working at it. I've got this entire place at my disposal during the off hours because it's just me and another fella working there. he does the hard work/i learn from him, i handle the minor work and the paper work stuff.

Brakes on all 6 wheels is a great idea, however there is the issue of moving enough fluid to actuate the extra pair of wheel cylinders - judging by the fact that he's working with a 14-bolt axle I'm thinking his vehicle is either a 1-ton truck, or a 3/4-ton Suburban, both of which should have pretty big master cylinders already. Then if he is in fact building a trailer (which I'm quite positive he is, judging by his comments so far), he will need to be able to connect the hydraulic brakes of the trailer to the hydraulic system of the truck - something I personally would not feel too comfortable with... All that said, it would be nice to have brakes on every axle, and in case of a trailer it could be possible to come up with some sort of an electric-over-hydraulic setup, where you have an electric motor actuating a small master cylinder that in turn feeds the regular wheel brakes, and there are brake controller out there (such as my Tekonsha P3) that can operate such a system.

Re: Operation: Halfatruck (side project)
its true, i have a massive master cylinder.
in other news, the project rolls forward to Stainless Works this friday for a 2-3 week stay for a full custom TRUE stainless exhaust...not bulls#!t like magnaflow try to pass off as stainless. it will be long tube headers into true dual 3" pipes/3" cats/3" mufflers, and then exiting frenched out the bumper in 4" slash cut double wall black onyx coated tips. the system will be V-band clamped at the header, post cats, and post mufflers to make the system 100% modular and easily repairable in case a jump goes bad. they will also be hanging the entire system with heat dissipating hangers with anti-vib frame mounts. the entire system will stay in the confines of the frame and wont cause and ground clearance issues what so ever. it will be a very stealth install that will have a high quality grumble with no rasp or drone. its a costly, but worthwhile piece of the pie.

3 axles, 8 H2 wheels and 37" M16 tires
you do the math, to me... its not adding up

Re: Operation: Halfatruck (side project)
well, there will likely be a break in the action for a bit. the custom exhaust is going to take a few weeks, im going hunting for a few weeks, and im having a president of a time finding material for the frame locally.
