Operation: Halfatruck (side project)
This is sort of a side project to my main Suburban build, but i thought id post a few pics anyhow. LPGPWRD and i are doing this as a combined effort. basically, i buy parts and dream, and he actually does the work. its a good partnership imo. So we want to build half a truck. lose 1/2 the weight and still have all the real benefits of a pick-up. here is our humble beginnings:
14ff on Craigslist- $100 box
i didnt take any before pics (sadly). but the axle had to go on a MAJOR diet. it needed to weigh 1/2 of its original weight.
first order of buisness was getting rid of the drums. we beat them off the axle with a goddamn hammer, and beat the studs out with a different goddamn hammer.
hubs (that will get all new bearings) and new studs.
making the brake delete rings
thats an instant 100lb weight savings and real trucks only need front brakes anyhow.next was the hubs turn:
before, gross-
after, clean and half as long!
waiting for word on 1/2 a truck bed and a whole order from DIY4x, who is custom making some very cool parts.
stay tuned!

I am guessing this truck mainly be used at the track so it won't be as much of a problem.

I figure if you buy a parachute that will be lighter than the rear braking system and should slow you down sufficiently.

The joys of projects... I think I bleed a little every other time I work... knicked knuckles, cuts, burns from grinder & welded, pinched finger, metal shards...
Looks good. Racing, pulling, mudding? What ya using the truck for?

Re: Operation: Halfatruck (side project)
Good thing about no rear brakes you can run 15s and all the good sized slicks.
