78 K10 Stepside Project
Hey guys, first off, without this resource and others like it I wouldn't have been able to pull off half of what I did. So a big thanks goes out to all of you who posted valuable info helping all of us not-so-gear-heads get up to speed.
As much as I hate reading threads about people "starting projects" and never actually starting the project, I figured I might as well get some work done before I post anything... So, almost 10 months later here's my project almost completed:
78 Chevy K10 Stepside

Bought it from the previous owner for $500!

Major motor issues... it would barely fire up.

80's style redneck light bar, but look what's chained to it!

5 practically brand new Claws...

Just after pulling the motor out and pressure washing.

A lot of work to be done!

Fully rebuilt 350 from Larry's Performance in Montebello, CA. 260 straight cam, roller rockers and lots of other goodies!

Finished putting everything together...

Engine compartment has been cleaned and repainted... The truck is ready for it's new motor.

The forklift came in handy!

All in a days work.
So after a full rebuild on the transmission, steering, axles and hub components, new Competition leaf springs, new glass, window rubbers, a conversion from vacuum to hydro assist brakes, steel braided lines, this is where I am at today:

The bumper is in progress. I'm adding d-rings and 5" pro-comp fluted lights within the next few days. The front and rear bumpers are going to be powder-coated black along with the wheels.

Wire-wheel, sand, prime, paint, repeat
Next I have to finish cleaning the rear of the frame and axle, finish the bumpers and take everything to the power-coater.

Looks pretty good so far. What paint are you using on the frame?

Sharp looking truck, always been a fan of 73-87 chevys. Wheels are outdated, but will work, and that is a bada@# bumper. Keep the update coming.

Re: 78 K10 Stepside Project
That is a very nice truck, I love what you have done to it so far. I've always loved the lifted stepsides. That is the main reason I wanted a stepside. Its cool that you got 5 great tires with it too. What are your plans for driving it? Going to race/compete?

Yeah the wheel's are totally outdated, but I think the black powder-coat should put some new life into them. Eventually, when I wear the Claw's out, I'll put some newer bigger rims and tires on.

Rustoleum has been my good friend for the course of the project.

Well, my main purpose in building this is to take my fiance and daughter out to the desert, mountains and Pismo. It's going to be a fun weekend truck for us and a nice break from the quads.

Thank you. Honestly I had been putting the funds together for the Cognito 10", 20's and 37's for my 1500, but this seemed like such a better project. The deal just landed in my lap and I couldn't pass it up.
UPDATE: I finished all of the cleaning on the rear of the frame and axle. Everything has been sanded, primed and painted. I have the dash taken apart to finish the stereo work and heater core replacement. I'll follow up with some pictures soon.

Man, you guys don't miss a thing! Haha. My good friend and the owner of this tow shop has a good collection of classics, two of which include a 56 6400 series tow truck (restoration in progress) and a frame-off fully restored 58 apache with a vette motor. I will take some pictures of said vehicles and post them with my next update.

Reminds me of rigs from my childhood...
Dig the big meat on the little rim look and the shocks to assist the steering system..
Should make light work of all your needs...
