Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Onedsob, Noob here trying to get a few ques answered about my 08 crew 2wd silverado. Love the stance of your truck, it's what I'm looking for. Leaning towards Belltech full kit 4-6 or Ground Force 3-5 with 22's (305/40/22). Read alot about Belltech but not much on Ground Force, why is that? Are most kits exact or close to it with lowering specs? (is a 4-6 really 4"6" or more like 3 3/4" 5 1/2")Hope your picking up what I'm laying down. Any help would be scrumptious.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
I have a 1998 Silverado 1500 2WD Ext Cab and was thinking of lowering it. I am thinking of lowering it 2/2 using either Belltech or DJM spindles and Shackles. I really would like to go 2/3 since my truck sits 1.5" higher in the back. I would like to keep my factory leaf spring as I am happy with the ride quality and do some towing and have heard aftermarket leaf springs lesson capacity. If I use the Hanger/Shackle combination can I saw there are two adj choices in on Hanger and two on Shackle, has anyone had experience to know if there is a combination of holes that I could use to lower the back 3" from my factory parts? Also I am planning on keeping my factory 15" alloys, so I have heard I will have to cut back the rain gutter on the LCA (dragging my feet about that, as that sounds like it could weaken it). If I did lower the back by 3" will my factory shocks still work, or will I need special shocks? Will I need to "roll the wheel wells" with this drop? With a 2/3 drop what other things do I need to consider?

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
I have a '98 Silverado 1500 Ext Cab 2WD. I was planning on lowering it 2\2 using DJM or Bellech drop spindles and Shackles. I would like to keep using my stock 15" alloys. I have been dragging my feet doing this as I am a little concerned about trimming the rain gutter back on the LCA. I have heard with Belltech Spindles tires are 1\4" farther out, would this be better for use with Stock 15" Alloys? I would like to keep using my stock leaf spring as I am happy with the ride qaulity and do some towing and have heard stock leaf spring has a higher capacity. My truck is currently 1.5" higher in the back than the front. I would actually prefer to go 2/3 drop and am thinking this might be possible by also using drop Leaf spring Hangers. It appears the Hangers have two possible holes for mounting and the Shackles have two adj holes. What combination of holes would I need to drop the back 3" on my Ext Cab Shortbed? Also if I drop 3" in the back would I need to use special shortened shocks in the back or can I stick with the stock ones? Would a 2\3 drop need to have wheel wells rolled? I have heard I might need my tie rod trimed on the end for clearance. What other modifications would I need to do?

Shackles are a piece of cake. We're talking about the other end where the hangars are riveted to the frame.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
on the newer body styles I had to raise the bed and remove the hitch. It was a pain at first but now that I know how to do it...its easy.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
I put hangers on my truck with AIM leaf springs.......mistake. Took them off after I felt every stupid bump then put the stock hangers on with a flip kit and then added a 1" shackle.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
well after much deliberation I'm gonna lower my crew cab 1500 with a 2" spring and a 2" rear shackle. Not as low as I want to go but I haul and tow alot of heavy stuff and I don't have fundage right now to put in air bags. Plus I have 20" LTZ rims and tires and Im worried the tires will rub in the front if I go lower. Pics will come when I get around to doing it. I may cheat and cut the front springs one coil.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
bad idea on cutting the coils.
depending on the tires size you're running in the front you maynot rub.
i have 20's with 275/45 tires and a 5 inches of drop in the front and i only rub when i smoke a pot hole the tire hits the top of the fender well

Seriously? That's about a 29" tall tire. My front tires are under 26" tall and with a 6" drop they rub in the fender wells on bumps.
If it wasn't for the fact that I have my bumpstops set for about 1/8" of clearance to the frame, I'd be hitting the fenders a LOT (actually it was hitting a lot, until I shimmed the bumpstops up as high as I could.)

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
hmm thats kinda weird...i donno i maybe a little lighter in the front if you have a V8 becuase i only have a 4.3 V6 in mine so its a little lighter and i have the stock bump stops.
the only mod i made to the fenders is rollthe lip cuz i made the mistake of driving without it rolled and it cut and shaved my sidewalls. Made my tires looks like crap

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
I think the tire size is 275/55-20. yea I may not take the chance and just get 2" springs.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
When i bought my 93',the guy who had it before me lowered it about 4" all around, and it seems like he just used coils up front and shackels in the back. (i got the 4" estimation after measuring my dads which is stock) anyway, i really want to do a 6/8 drop next. its got 15" 454ss wheels and im putting 235/60s on them before i drop it. my question is what all do i need to get to pull it off, and will it still be halfway driveable?
i planned on just puttin 2" spindles up front and flipping the rear, because i think i can raise it up 2" with the shackles that are on it. will this work? seems too easy.

anybody have pics? I brought my silverado back from AZ and gonna take some pics before I lower it. Now I'm thinkin 3" in the front and 2" in the rear. I like the hot rod rake look and it will level out when Im towing.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
I took some measurements today and it looks like the way to go is a 2" drop all around with these tires. It puts the fenders about 1/2" to 1" on the tires.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Has anyone tried the soft ride leafs from sport truck direct (or any type of soft ride spring)? How about pulling a leaf out of the pack? Will this tend to give a truck a 'nose bleed' stance with 4-5" drop up front and a flip kit out back?
