Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Well, I read through all 7 pages of this thread and did not find an answer. Some say to take the bed off to install 2" drop hangers, is that necessary? I am going to use a cutting wheel or have my pops cut them off w/ an acetyline(sp?) torch to remove the stock hangers(they are riveted in). Can I cut them out and install the new hangers w/out taking off the bed? Or is it hella easier to just take the bed off????

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
With the monster "c" notch do I have to trim the sheet metal channel that is part of bed?

If so does that weaken the bed?

Do I have to reinforce bed in anyway?

Thanks, Mike

I'm not sure 100% sure about needing to trim it, but if you do you won't have to worry about supporting it....I removed mine instead of notching it out for the rear end housing and haven't had any problems.

I did on mine. Just cut out a small section and it wil be fine. The bed will not be weakened at all.

We lowered 6 or so trucks without removing the bed. the only hard part is getting the nut onto the bolt on the hanger by the gas tank. I found an easy way to do this by attaching the nut to a closed-end wrench with duct tape.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Thanks import fighter and justin. I appreciate the comments fellas. I will take both into considerstion. If my brother is there, I will call a friend of mine, and the few of us can take the bed off. If it's just my pops and myself, we will have to use the duct taped wrench idea. Again thanks for the feedback guys. I'll post the pics ehen I am all doen. The install is tomorrow morning, bright and early. Might go to Pomona first though....

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
After reading the entire thread (and maybe I am in the wrong location) but I want to lower my Suburban, modestly. Nothing outrageous. Furthermore I tow a lot and am considering baging the rear. What "gotchas" should I look for? Are there specific "kits" for suburbans etc?

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Lookin to drop my 95 stepside reg cab 4/6. Noticed that most rear flips come with the shock extenders...everyone running those even with drop shocks? Also with the c-notch it comes with will it hit the bumbstop at all? do i need to go larger notch to ensure i dont bottom out. I noticed they also come with adjustable pinion angle brackets how are you adjusting? getting angle finders or just guessing? Im preety ok on the front thats just simple stuff springs and spindles. Also wanted to know does the bed need to be lifted off to do a flip kit? Anyone try out summit's spindles or preety much stickin to belltech stuff? Also right now im running 255/65/16's rims tuck inside the fender wells think i'll be ok or should i go lower profile. I actually had to clearance the upper a-arm for these rims to fit.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Yes you need to use the shock extenders even with lowered shocks.
The C notch should comes with button type bumpstops which are low but they will hit on very big bumps.
The bed does not have to come off to do the C notch.
I heard summit uses Belltech spindles can't confirm it, they use what they sell so it's either Belltech or DJM, either one you can't go wrong with.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Ive loweredmy trucks a few times. 2/4,. then 3/5 which I thought would be PERFECT but noooooope. Went to a 4/6 and said nah and ended up 6/7. Much more fun down here, and Ive only cut 3 things. My frame, under the a arm for the spindles, and the notch for the rear end gear.

This is a thread about static drops and you're asking about bags?

Question Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
OK... After doing my research and reading quite a number of threads and posts relating to my 1990 OBS Chevy SCSB, I still have a question that I cannot seem to figure out. I just put 20's with 275/45/20 (I think 45) tires mounted. I already installed Belltech 2" shackles on the rear to level the truck out and eliminate the rake. However, now that my 20's have been installed, I need it to be lower. The particular rims I bought had a +30mm backspacing, when a +17mm backspacing is needed for the chevy. Rims: American racing RT-S black 20x8.5 series 311. So, to compensate for the backspacing (plus the rims were butting against a flange on the hub, therefore not mounting flush) I bought some 1 1/4" spacers that put my rims exactly where I wanted them.... flush with the outside of the wheel well. Now, after searching around, I think the drop I want is the 2/4 (not counting my current shackles). I do want a nice sporty semi-firm ride and I want hardly any body roll. As this is a daily driver, I still need a semi-comfortable ride too....
1st question: I was set on spindles, but my truck being a 90, for the sporty ride I want, am I going to have to change out my springs too?? If so, would it be smarter to just go 2" springs instead of the spindles??
2nd question: The rear sounds like a 4" flip-kit drop... does this sound correct for my application, or are there better alternatives??
3rd question: The current stock system being so old, it looks as if I will be pretty much redoing my WHOLE system.... are there good kits that include EVERYTHING... I know a similar question like this came up earlier, but I differ when I say EVERYTHING... shocks, sway bars, springs/spindles or both, flip kit, and possibly new leaf springs (or, should I say 4" drop leaf springs). That sounds like pretty much everything... bushings??

Thanks guys... 1st post out by the way.. It sounds like there is quite a bit of suspension intelligence out there...Thanks for letting me tap in.... :) Pics coming soon, as they are waaaaaaaay too big for this site right now... have to resize and adjust....

Michael

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Well I have read through the thread and found answers to my questions (2in dropped spindles vs 2in dropped lca's). I just got off the phone with summit and ordered a 4/6 drop (spindles, coils, flipkit, and nitro actives. Should be here by weds, gonna install it next sunday. I have a lil knowledge with suspensions (dropped a few balljoints and steering linkages), but my boy is gonna give me a hand. He has a 86 monte LS lifted (hydraulics). If any one can tear into a suspension, he can. I will post some before and after pics after its done. BTW, its going on an 03 silverado ext cab, stock wheels.
