Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Looking to drop my 94 2wd shortbed C1500 a bit. Thinking 3/4 would do it??
Don't want to be level..like a bit of a rake look as in the early muscle car stance. I'll be running my 15" stock wheels for awhile then going to wider 15" Cragers. Tires would likley be 235-275/75 size range. I often haul my Harley in the back bed so I'd like not to bottom out. Don't want to C'Notch the frame either. I'm thinking Beltech all round as well as rebuilding the whole front end with new bushings, tie rods ends, ball joints etc. What parts would you guys recommend to achieve this. Hrdly |

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
2 inch spindal
a 2 inch shackel and a 2 inch spring that would put you at about 4 up font and lower you 2-3 inches in the rear so you would have about 1-2 inches of rake in back and not have to worry about a notch or the diff hitting the bed

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
i think a 4/3 drop would look funny, thats alotta rake. id just do a 2/3 drop n call it quits, 4 inches in the rear will bottom out without a notch (atleast my NBS did, OBS guys chime in), with a 3 u might be in trouble while haulin, but i cant tell you for sure there. the tires would be fine, you could probably run a pretty good sidewall with that mild drop.

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
i am also really thinking about a 2"/2" or a 2"/3" drop on my 1992 silverado stepside. i want to keep the some rake in there... i have to say this thread was a huge help.. all 13 pages of it. now i would like to hear what you guys may have to say about my plan.
i am thinking of shackles in the rear... now i have heard mix reviews on theses... so they may suck to put on but do you get 2" or 3" with them? i would prefer 3" if there are any differences between specific manufactures. as for the front... i would like to do a 2" drop and would prefer to use spindals.. however i get the vibe that this idea wont work with my stock 15" rims without cutting is this true? and if cutting is involved where and how? (any pics would be great) or would it just be better to get a 2" spring? i would like to keep my stock rims for winter use as this is a daily driver and don't wanna ruin nice rims with salt... also with this project i have no idea where to get shocks from or where to get shocks... so if any links can be posted or specifics listed that would be a huge help! i would like to keep this whole project as cheap as possible as well... so please provide any info that will help me out. i put a pic of the truck.. i like the look but a little lower will def make it look a little meaner... if ya wanna see the truck its in "my gallery" thanks in advanced! Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
got the djm 4/6 kit install this weekend! looks awsome! i already had djm's drop shackles so i ended up puting them in the 1 inch drop hole, so i ges im at a 4/7 drop all together, geting it aligned today and hopefuly there wont be any issues, i do have a little driveshaft vibration at low rpm when im realy geting on it, my pinion angle changed slightly after a few burnouts and that makes me nervous, should i be worried or was rverythin just settling in? my buddy had a dodge with a hemi that he flipped in the rear and he axle wrapped so bad he dropped the driveshaft! i dont want that to happen to me, i have a 4.8 with some bolt ons so im probly around 300 hp right now with more horses in the future so i need to figure this pinion angle out before i break something, any advice would be appreciated

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Anyone know how long the *stock* shackles are on a '97 2WD Tahoe?
I had mine lowered 4/6 with a rear flip and because the flip brings a hoe down (heh) more than it does a pickup, the shop had to put lifting shackles on it to bring it back to 6". I'm looking to run this down to a 5/7 drop and was wondering if I just put stock shackles back on it if that would give me that 1" drop I'm looking for. The shackles that are on it now are 3" long center to center on the bolts: ![]() If stock shackles are 5" long, that would do the trick. Wish I would have kept 'em but I think I sold 'em at a swapmeet many years ago _dennis

Replying to myself, the stock shackles are 4.5" long. So mine lifted it up 0.75". I found a pair of stock take-offs from an 08 and will install them soon. _d

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Gang,
My hoe is actually lowered 5" in front. Didn't find that out until I installed a new pair of 3" drop coils last weekend, only to find it the SAME HEIGHT. Oy. So it's either a 5/6 or 5/7 drop. The rear has a flip kit and the 0.75" lift shackles. My dad has a pair of 4" drop coils in storage. When he lowered his '88 shortbed, no one made drop spindles for it (the truck design was too new), but he found these 4" coils and ran them for a long time. I'm planning to swap my 3" coils for these 4" coils. Any problems I should know about before doing this? Reminder, this is a 2-door '97 Tahoe that has 2" drop spindles and (presently) 3" drop coils. I know the Tahoes are a little heavier than the pickups, so I hope this 4" coil doesn't drop it *more* than 4" due to the extra weight. I looked up BellTech's application guide and they do show the 95-99 Tahoes and 88-98 Ext Cab pickups taking the same coils, while the 88-98 standard cabs using a different coil. TIA, _dennis

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
Late post, but you'll want to check all your clearances that low. I know on my truck, even with the v6 and 255/35/20s, I started to rub the stock inner fenders up front (5" drop with coils and spindles or lcas). I also needed to cut out for my tie rods as they would hit the frame. You'll definately want to raise your y-pipe as it will get destroyed. Other than that, keep an eye out on the road ahead and get it aligned. Have fun driving it at 6" all the time :)

95 Chevy 1500
I recently purchased a 3/4 drop (DJM - Front coil springs and shocks, rear hangers, shackles and shocks). This will be my first lowering job. I read all included instructions but still have questions like: What is the most affective way to remove the rivets? Is it easy to push gas tank out of way for the rivets? Does anyone have any advice/answers?

Thanks. My cross-over pipe is already raised and the front fenders are rolled, so I'm good there. If the tie rods hit, I've read that you can simply turn the clamps such that the bolt ends aim away from the frame. Hopefully that will be enough if they do hit. My dad said he had to clearance a bit of frame on his truck where the stock LCAs touched, but his is also bagged, so I doubt mine is going to be that low to have that issue (and he eventually switched to tubular LCAs so that clearance issue became a non-issue for him). I'll have to monitor tire rub, and if my shocks bottom out. I plan to replace the shocks anyway (I have 9 years on them-they still work well but have always been pretty stiff--KYBs) so if I happen to beat 'em up a little bit figuring that out, it won't break my heart ;-) If I like the 6" drop, *and* if I get a 2nd car next year, I will probably consider bagging it. But I don't want to do that for a daily driver. Can't afford the time to chase down solenoids gone bad, etc. _dennis

I know you've already purchased this, but you'd get a better ride quality with 2" spindles and 1" coils up front. Only thing with spindles is you'll probably have to replace your balljoints after installing them. I destroyed 3 out of 4 balljoint boots trying to remove the balljoints with a pickle fork. Gang, is there a press that one can use to remove balljoints without damaging the boots? _dennis

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
not a press but loosen the nut to like the last two threads and smack it with a big fin hammer till it pops out there is no way to use a pickle fork and not tear the boots unless your really carful and even then no guarantees

Re: My advice on lowering your truck static.
I think it would be tough to get a good swing on those balljoint ends with a hammer--not much room in there?
BTW, my hoe is now down nearly 7" in front: 2" spindles and 4" coils that were made for a standard cab truck, so they actually dropped it 4-11/16". Rear is down about 7" or 8" with the flip and stock shackles. All static. Pix in post #764 here: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...e-list-39.html _dennis
