brake backing plate help

started to install my new Slams and drop spindles... left side went on great but when i tried to get the right side backing plate off it actually broke away from the bolt holes... does anyone have the part number for the right side or where i could get one? it is a '90 Silverado extended cab 4.3L 2wd thanks in advance
also how important is the backing plate? and what exactly is its purpose

Mine were rusted thru when i did mine, I think that those would be a jumk-yard item but im not sure, i know advanced auto doenst carry it, I think that the plate sheilds heat from the brake lines, and keeps large debris out. I fabed new ones, and i would def get them back on.

how did you fab up new ones? just drilled the holes and bend up the sides? any tips on it? thanks
