How low can you go
I have an 89 RCSB. I want to go as low as I can without air bags. I have lowered it 4/6 and would like to do 3 inch body drop. How low can I go and not have problems with front tires rubbing? What size tires? Wheels? Any pictures?

Re: How low can you go
There's a good sticky thread here with lots of discussion:
http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...ck-static.html

Also another sticky with pictures:
http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...ars-drops.html

Also, you can go as low as 6/8 static if you want to without bags but its not generally recommended. I ran 5/8 daily for a while with no real issues. It also depends a lot on tire size wheel backspacing, etc.

hmmm...can channel but not body drop?...they are different approaches to the same result which is a body sitting lower on the frame.

Re: How low can you go
Thanks for the replys to the post. I am not an auto body man, I am in the transmission buisness. I do love to fabricate. The 89 RCSB truck is a low budget beater NO billet NO shiney paint and no air bags. That would cost more than I have in the whole project now. It drives great with suspension mods right now (spindels, springs, Home fabbed axle flip and C-notch). Any more suspension modifications I may sacrifice the ride. If I do a body drop where I would lower the cab mounts, brace and trim off the top of the frame and raise the bed floor 3 inches I don't know if the tires will rub in the front when I steer. Final wheel and tire size has not been decided, it will probably be 15 inch wheels.

That sounds like a lot of work to not even be that low IMO, just get some spindles and coils and a flip kit and call it a day with a 4/6.

Re: How low can you go
I guess my question should be, Is there anyone out there with 7/9 drop and no bags? And still use it for a regular driver?

Re: How low can you go
I don't think you want to go lower then 6" without bags. Even 6" is pushing it IMO If anything go with 5" in the front to be safe. Maybe Fab a coilover for the front and then you can adjust to what you will be happy with.

Re: How low can you go
i can see where he's coming from. i always thought a static bodydrop would be sweet.
the problem with actually driving anything lower than 5/7 is ground clearance and this doesn't change with the body drop. frame/cross member will still be the lowest part of the truck (airdamn will be gone i guess).
so the only real problem is tire clearance in the front. i was at 4/6 with some meaty tires and room to spare, so i'd imagine that it would be possible with some small 15s. easiest way to figure it out is to take some measurements with bagged trucks
