Lowering my 454ss 2-4?
Wow I havent been here for a while.....I lost my name ...
Anyways I am finally about ready to start ordering parts for my drop. I am going to go with belltech spindles and hangers/shackes out back. I have decided to go with edelbrock shocks all the way around too. I was just wondering if anyone could give me a run down of what to expect when dropping it. Example: tools needed and tips or things that I should look out for would be greatly appreciated.
thank you
jim

Hey jimmy,
I will tell you about the hard part, the hangers are a pain in the butt to get off, you should use an air hammer to pop off the rivets, what you should also do it take the bed off, it makes it so easy to get at the rivets, the gas tank side is the worst.

I used coils up front on mine. I've heard they are better than spindles b/c you don't lose your turning radius. And I think it's a little easier. Not sure about that. Are there 4 in. shackles, b/c that's all I have out back.

Spindles might do that on the new model trucks, but I have used belltech spindels on 4 trucks already and mine maintained the factory steering geometry.

Well I'll give you a tip on the rear hangers on the fuel tank side. we used 2 motorcycle tiedown straps and strapped from framerail to framerail directly under the tank. then we removed the tank strap bolts and let the tank rest on the straps. slid it out of the way about 10 inches and you have a clean shot at the rivets. we used an air hammer and a grinder to remove mine. actually you only have to pull tank to get a wrench on the nuts to install the new hangers. You may have to do some trimming of the pinchwelds to get the hangers to clear. I have some install photos on my website on where to trim http://www.geocities.com/wreckmster/suspension.htm . check them out.. it may help give you an idea on what you are up against..
good luck and enjoy the drop

Could be worse, Jimmy. I've been here almost as long and haven't even started the rapid fire question-asking phase. Hopefully when I'm ready, all of my questions will have already been answered.
