Best Way To Get 4/6 and Ride Quality ???
I currently have a 2/4 drop on my 96. Up front I have 2" springs. Out back I am using shackels and hangers. I am running Edlebrock Performer IAS shocks all around. It's a little stiffer but rides very well.
I am thinking of taking it down another two inches to either get it down a little lower on my little 15" wheels or upgrading to 17". Up front I am planning to use spindles. Not sure what would be the best on the rear. Any suggestions? Would I be able to use the shocks I have now? and the biggest question, what kind of ride quality can I expect? I don't want to be slamming the bump stops every time I get on the road. Last edited by slowrider : 08-18-2008 at 12:45 PM. |

Put the stock rear parts back on and get a flip kit for the rear, and add 2" spindles up front.

Re: Best Way To Get 4/6 and Ride Quality ???
Guess I will have to hit the classifieds. The stock parts are long gone. Will I need a notch to keep the rear from slamming on the frame? How about the shocks? I should be able to run the same ones up front right? Will I need shorter ones for the rear? Thanks for the info.

You'll need a notch for anything lower then 4". You can run the same shocks, but you'll most likely need some shock extenders or a set drop shocks.

Re: Best Way To Get 4/6 and Ride Quality ???
you will need shorter shocks for the rear.
you will need to loose the shackles and hangers. you will need to get factory shackles and hangers. you will need to do a 6" flip kit. you will need new rear shocks. you will need, and want, 2" drop spindles up front. you can keep your shocks you have now because you are using drop spindles. you can probably try to find 3" drop leaf springs if you want it to ride bad, but thats your decsion, not mine, IMHO, go with the flip kit for sure. your ride will stay the same as it is now as long as you get new bump stops and correct shocks. Cool, Thanks guys. That pretty much covers the questions I had. Anyone happen to know if Edlebrock sells a shock that will work on the rear with a flip kit installed. And yeah, Those 3" leafs are out of the question. I definatly want to keep a good ride. I have too many rods in my back to drive a bone crusher.

haha well that gives you a good reason to do a flip kit as well. when your lookin at buyin a kit after you get all the factory pieces. shoot me a pm, I can help ya out man.
and youd probably have to call them with the extended, collapsed, and mounting methods of the shock you will need to get the right ones. ♠

Re: Best Way To Get 4/6 and Ride Quality ???
Cool, Thanks man. I have to figure out if I can run that low with the 50s I have on the truck now. There is a guy in town that I have been meaning to run down to find out what his setup is. He is sitting low, Just over the same size tires I have but I think he may have some back yard hack job crap done to his truck. If they won't work with what I have I will have to pull the tires in a bit and will go to a 17" wheel.
Oh, and thanks man. I'll shoot you a pm once I get it all figured out if I decide to go ahead with this little project. |

Just a thought, would a shock extender work for the rear. Then you can keep all 4 shocks.

I don't know if they would work or not. If so, I would imagine they would cost less than new shocks.

ehh not so much, but for 40 dollars more, you just have the correct shock for the drop your doin. IMO, it will save headaches in the long run.
